My grandfather was Horace Hughes which was Samuel & Lena's oldest son. I've never met any of my grandfather's siblings or his parents. I have a lot of questions concerning the Hughes. One is that they had a daughter named Anna Gertrude Hughes who was on the census when she was 13yrs old but not when she was 3yrs old. Also Samuel's wife Lena gertrude Johnston is on all the census with her parents being Joseph l Johnston born in Georgia and Mary C White but her death certificate and her obit says her father was Thomas Johnston born in Mississippi. Lena was the middle child so she was either adopted or her mother had an affair. I found Joseph, Thomas and Mary White all living in Pontotac, Mississippi when they were in their early teens.
