I'm Michelle, Christina's sister. I'm also looking into the family line. If you find anything on that Cherokee wife, I'd really be interested. With a little help, I think I've traced the Castle name back to 1590 Germany. Not sure if that matches with yours or not, but I'd love to compare. The changes in the spelling threw me a little at first. (Castle - Cassel - Kasel) I've also looked into Granny Castle's line (Dooley), but that only goes back to about 1847 with Compton and Edwards. To go along with this, I'm also looking into my husband's line (Rodgers & Frederick). We recently moved from Jacksonville to Oklahoma, and his family is supposed to have Indian ancestry also. I'd love to be able to see all of this in one spot, so I'm trying to put as much info together as possible. What books do you have on the Castle family? Are they available somewhere, or are they books your dad put together. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Granny had Donna and Dorothy; My dad had Jeanette and Janet; Jeanette had Mandy (she died before she was born) and Brandy; Jeanette's daughter Steph just gave birth to Ayden and Kyla in November 07; Aunt Gladys daughter Becky has a set if I remember right; Aunt Ethel's daughter has a set of twins; I will have to think if there are more. I want to say there is another set, but I will have to look back at my records. I have twins on both sides of my family. Both of my grandparents on my mom's side and my dad's side had twins. Liz, I would be very interested in sharing information. You seem to have a lot on the Castle side. I see that we may have more than Castle's, perhaps a Burnside. My father was Edward Paul Castle b 10 Mar 1930 d 25 Feb 1985 his father was Isaac Herman Castle 7 Apr 1888 TN d 20 May 1935 m Emma A. Coffin, his father was James Castle b. abt 1963 TN m Mary Testerman His father was Paul C Castle. I have had a hard time tracking them. If any of these names sound familiar that would be wonderful. She was from the Kisopoko sept of the Shawnne Indian nation. [The Kispoko sept is the same sept that the famous Indian warrior Tecumseh was born into.] Now, is there any official documentation of this, not that I can find. Not much was documented back then. Here is what I have in file on her: Mary Elizabeth aka SOWEGE/SOWEGA or GLIDING SWAN was born about 1710 in Pennsylvania. Sowege was a full blood Shawnee, Kispoko sept. She died before 1820 in Virginia. Sowege was anglicanized and baptised in PA as Mary Elizabeth prior to them migrating to VA. No census ever listed her name, as family memers did not get listed before 1850. My information came from family lore passed down through the family and what info that we can find on Jacob while he lived in what is now Russel County Virginia. Yes, you are right. Levi, who spent the greater part of his life as a Methodist minister in New York State and he was descended from Henry Castle from Connecticut. I would be very interested in this too. I lived in Rittman Ohio in the late 1940's - I was 7 when we moved there from Pittsburgh PA in 1945. Do you have any idea how long the Castles lived there? My grandmother was Alida Castle, daughter of Asbury Castle Of Pittsburgh. Levi was Asbury's father and he was a minister in many towns of New York state.
