Private funeral services will be held in the Salas Brothers-Moore Funeral Chapel at 1:30 PM tomorrow with the Rev. W. R. Baird, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. Schell was born in Chinese Camp, Tuolumne County. His father had come to California with the 49ers and was operating a jewelry store there. The family moved to Knights Ferry, Snelling and Merced, Merced County. When he was 18, he opened his first jewelry store in Fresno. He took part in the opening up of public lands in the Cherokee Strip in Indian Territory and in the Klondike and Nome gold rushes in Alaska. He operated jewelry stores in various places in California. Schell leaves his widow, Kathryn Schell, Oakdale. He was the uncle of Mrs. Beatrice Mohr and Mors Louise Mohr, Napa; Mrs. Bertha Reid, Modesto, and Charles Schloh, Michigan.
