LaCore, 75, died Tuesday in a local hospital after a long illness. LaCore was the founder of Pacific Valley Stores, a firm which operated retail tire stores in Modesto, Madera and Portrville, the forerunner of LaCore Tire Co., which today is operated by another owner under the name of The Tire Store. A native of Colorado, LaCore and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was 12, and he launched his movie career as an "extra" a year later by tagging along with a stagehand uncle. Working his way up to stunt man, he did everything from riding bucking broncos to jumping off cliffs, and was making inroads toward becoming a star himself when talking pictures replaced silent films. LaCore performed in about 20 silent films, appearing with such stars as Will Rogers, Tom Mix, Ward Bond, Hoot Gibson, Alan Hale and William S. Hart. A resident of Modesto for 45 years, LaCore was a charter member of Del Rio Golf and Country Club and was a member of the Modesto Masonic Lodge, the Kiwanis Club and Lions Club. He is survived by his son, Walter C. "Bud" LaCore of Modesto, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of Modesto. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lakewood Memorial Park, under the direction of Franklin & Downs - McHenry Chapel. Friends wishing to do so may make remembrances to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund. Transcribed by Judy Ewbank
