You don't have to buy a copy of the death certificate but you might want one for your files. If this isn't something your capable of (visiting Modesto) let me know - I have a volunteer that will transcribe the death certificate for you. There are also many cemetery inventory books on the shelf at the Stanislaus main library that were compiled by the Genealogy society - have you asked for a lookup in them? Do you know what town the family lived in when he died?
