Cullum -- Graveside services for Columbus Ray Cullum, 78, of Turlock are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at San Joaquin-Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella. Burial will be held during services. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Whitehurst Norton Chapel. Mr. Cullum was born in Lindseg, Okla. He died Friday at Emanuel Medical Center. He was employed for 40 years with the Turlock Irrigation District as a canal patrolman. He was a member of Grayson Assembly of God. During World War II he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the U. S. Army. He was honored with the American Theater of Operations Service Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He served as a private expert rifleman and expert infantryman from 1944 until 1946. Suvivors include his wife, Hazel Cullum of Turlock; four sons, Stanley Cullum of Modesto and Willard Cullum, Larry Cullum and Robert Emery, all of Turlock; three daughters, Kathy Winter of Waterford, Glenda Hoyle of Modesto and Jane Lea of Turlock; two brothers, Elmer Cullum of Tulare and Bill Cullum of Galt; two sisters, Opal Campbell and Bernice Clark, both of Visalia; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
