Best regards >From Michigan........Brrr... :-) ---------------------------------------------------- Joseph MCCREERY JR. born 8 APR 1814 in the Finger lakes region in (Newton?) Brutus, Cayuga Co., New York d. 2 DEC 1892 in Elgin, Kane County, Illinois. Joseph was of a M. E. family, He was also the nephew of(REV.) Dr. Samuel Lucky. REV. Joseph McCREERY JR. One of Wesley University first students. He graduated from Wesley University in Middletown, Conn. which was founded in 1831. He was probably in Monroe by 1840. Was a celebrated, eccentric and well known Methodist Minister. His expulsion and that of Mr. Roberts of the Methodist Church lead to the formation of the the Free Methodist Church. After "the 5 year, much to do", Joseph was reinstated on probation to the M.E. Church, and was accepted back in Spencerport, NY 1860. After the conference and being reinstated sometime around 1862 he went west, pioneering the frontier, soon after living in the State of Illinois and California. Dec 2, 1892 11:30 p.m. Joseph McCreey, a widow, died of paralysis of the brain at the home of his son William at 364 Washburn street, Dec. 2 aged 79 years. He had left three sons and a daughter and has lived in California until 1891, In 1870 Joseph was living with his daughter Jane's Bishop family in San Joaquin County, Oneal He married Sidney BARNES b: 15 APR 1819, died before 1870. New Jersey, she was the dau. Of John BARNES (J.B. prob. b. MASS. Sidney prob. sister of Rox BARNES MCCRARY) likely lived in the Mohawk Valley area of New York, possibly in Orange, Montgomery or Fulton County. Sidney BARNES probably died before 1870 as Rev. Joseph was Living with his dau. Jane BISHOP 1870 in California, Sidney not listed. Children: 1. John MCCREERY b: 24 JUN 1845 Cattaraugus County, NY John McCreery was recorded in the Santa Monica, Los Angeles county census from 1910 to 1930. According to the California Death Index, John died in Los Angeles county on 2 October 1930. 2. Jane (Jennie) Elizabeth MCCREERY b: 26 OCT 1846 in Genesse Falls, Genesee Falls is a town in Wyoming County,(Livingston?) New York m. McKendree Fairchild BISHOP (have data) 3. William MCCREERY b: 14 JUN 1850 Allegany County, NY (have data) 4. James MCCREERY b: 5 MAR 1852 died before 1892. 5. Charles A. MCCREERY b: 1 JUN 1855; d. June 28, 1904; buried in Oakdale Citizens Cemetery: Block 5, Lot 1, Grave 1; owner William McCreery 6. Martha MCCREERY b: 12 JUN 1857 in New York Martha married Frank H. HORTON (1846-1931) and also died in Los Angeles county- on 23 August 1938. She and Frank Horton had one child- Mark M. Horton (born 16 January 1887 in Alameda county; died 2 May 1965 in Los Angeles county). ================================================
