CHEWNING - A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Ralph Wesley Chewning, 81, who died Tuesday in a local hospital after a short illness. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel. A native of Missouri, Mr. Chewning had lived in Modesto since 1957. He was a retired furnace tender for Corning Fiberglass Co. Surviving are six children, Ralph Chewning Jr. and Bernice Cogar of San Jose, Geneva Taylor of Oregon, Angela Whitly of Antioch, Patricia Hammons of Los Gatos and Katherine McHolland of Modesto; one brother, four sisters; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
