Phipps Feb. 23, 1918 -- Sept. 7, 1994 Hubert P. Phipps, 76, of Columbus, Ga. died Wednesday. Mr. Phipps was a native of Paris, Texas. He had lived in Hickman 14 years before recently moving to Columbus. He was a refrigeration engineer for Western Growers. He served in the Army during World War II. He is survived by his children, Ruth Helen Moore of Box Springs, Ga., and Jody Phipps of Texas; a brother, Bobbie Phipps of Whitewater, Wis.; sisters, Dorothy Chmielowiec and Bonnie Stefano both of Amarillo, Texas; and four grandchildren. Private services will be held. Lakewood Funeral Home, Hughson, in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her husband, Hubert Phipps of Hickman; a sister, Arlene Clark Ludlow of Hickman; a stepbrother, R.E. Ward of Shingle Springs; and a stepsister, Betty Newsome of Gray, Ga. A service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Funeral Home Hughson. Burial will follow at Roberts Ferry Cemetery.
