Short Aug. 19, 1911 -- Oct. 22, 1996 James William Short, 85, of Hughson died Tuesday at Brandel Manor Convalescent Hospital, Turlock. Mr. Short was a native of Winnipeg, Canada. He lived in Hughson 48 years. He owned Goodrich Oil Co. for 50 years. He belonged to the Western Oil Marketers Association and the California Independent Oil Marketers Association. He served on a public education commission in 1960 and 1961. He was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge, Hornitos, and he belonged to the Aahmes Shrine Club. He served in the Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife,Lola Short of Hughson; children, Phillip S. Short of Hughson, Robert P. Short of Modesto and Elva Jane Peeler of Loyalton; sister, Florence Short of Sonoma; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakewood Funeral Home, Hughson.
