It's typical of these Deutsch folks using their "middle" names which was done here in PA too by many, many of the relatives!! To further confuse a person they too most all had "nicknames!" It's amazing how persistance pays off after hunting for years for this family the "jigsaw" pieces are coming together! Another contact called the Cemetery and informed me there is a Marion SCHMIDT buried with she & Gustave SCHMIDT. She died young and is surely a daughter. It seems these SHIREY'S surely did move around!!!! Now I see Lillian (SHIREY) JOHNSON, is in Macon City, MO. and HIRAM SHIREY, her brother in Seattle, Washington, which figures for his father, Solomon M. SHIREY, had been in a Military Home in Orting, Washington, at one time. A relative & new contact in CA thought the obituaries of Hiram SHIREY were published when he'd died. His SS records show he died in Laton, Fresno Co. CA. It appears her sister, Blanche O. SHIREY, died then before 1941, since she is not named. No one seems to know anything about her as to her marriage!

We think Selma was his daughter-in-law(?), and Roy her son. Selma may have been married to a Frank Swanson listed in John's sister's obit. John's sisters name was Johanna Mathilda Swanson Peterson. Several records call her Mathilda or Tilda. She was born in 1861 in Vostergotland, Sweden would assume that John was born there also. His mother Anna Swanson came with him around 1887 from Sweden. His fathers name was Nels and died around 1882 in Sweden.

While my GG uncle had a son by that name, I do not think it's he for this one appears to have been in Westmoreland County, PA. I looked up the town Youngstown, PA. is in Westmoreland County. Not my lines at that time. And my relatives were in Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and California, by that time, in spite of hailing from Armstrong Co., Pennsylvania! If you like Historical things which I dearly love too check out art.com on the web. Also go into your search engines and enter Antiques, or items you can think of years ago... I've found some really "neat" stuff. A picture is worth 10,000 words when you're writing family biographies and want to describe for instance a laden lamp, washboard, churn, milkcan, threshing machine, flail, grain cradel, etc. as kids today don't know what you're speaking about! [And hey, I'm not that old, but sure grew up with it all on a farm!] Also Currier & Ives has a beautiful website! [They were the artists years ago with prints, etc. ] They along with art.com have beautiful photo's and scenes, etc.

I'm so glad you like my website! It's a LOT of fun to do - I only wish I had more time to spend on it. I put a little of everything from those old newspapers on the website - you never know what someone might find to be useful if it's one of their own ancestors. And if it isn't one of theirs, they can still glean some interesting historical background. Or at least I HOPE they can - I just like sharing my collection! And I'm very familiar with the thrill of the hunt - and when I find te tiniest things in an old newspaper or other unexpected source, no matter how insignificant it might be genealogically speaking, I am thrilled! I'd better run - I have some old newspaper pages to donate to eBay's "Auction for America!" Some old patriotic WWI pages - really neat stuff! I hope you'll vsit "The Olden Times" again some time!
