Charles Howe lived in Springfield, Tuolumne Co. as did Mr. Davis who had a Meat Market in Columbia, but the farms, all near each other, to which they slowly herded livestock from Springfield were "across a river and a few days travel from Springfield" which could have put them in Stanislaus county. : ELIJAH L. DAVIS (borne in PA) Mr. WILLIAMS Mr. VANDERWATER ( I found an Isaac Vanderverker in Tuolumne Co who had a dairy farm and not sure if the diarist didn't know how to spell. A Mr. __ Vanderwater was listed in the old book The Saga of Old Tuolumne) as one who tended to some roads in 1853-4) Mr. HOOD (also called him OLD HOOD) Mr. POOLE A Dr. GRAVES was interested in buying the ranch according to the diary, but I don't know if the sale went through. In early 1870's he and his family (four children) came to Hills Ferry and purchased land and farmed. We have letters telling about their land etc. One son is George Jr. and one listed as L.W. and two girls not named, except they go to school. George Jr. is writing the letter to his Uncle Thomas Harris in Ripon, WI. in 1875. George must be in his late teens or early 20's. Would like to find if there are any family of that surname in the area. He also mentions what is in Hills Ferry, such as hotel, stores etc. If anyone has any input I would like to hear from you. Hi all: I recieved this reply from Colleen Norby, who is off line with computer problems... If you need a CABI/CADI check.. just post a note, and if someone sees a note & it does not get a reply.. email one of those who are always online... Colleen, Sharon, etc.. even Marge (me.. don't have the cd... but can forward your messages to someone who does). The lookup will be done from the cds... will be a bit more time consuming.. but at least no one will be borrowing your identity... sure wish they would borrow my bills... why don't they pay our bills while they are at it? When my father's family moved to CA from MO in 1942 they lived in Patterson until they moved to Delhi, CA also there are a few names on the back of the picture, Eloise Holdeman, Elaine Backman, Paul Edwin Bonander, Anne Collins, Jimmie Collins, and a few more with only an initial for the last name.
