Aunt Dorothy was born Jul 21, 1913 in Kansas City MO. Her mothers maiden name was Hansbrough. She left Iowa in early 1930's, after a serious disagreement with her mother. I tracked her to San Jose CA. from oral family history. She sent clothing back to her family in Iowa for a few years. No one ever responded to her and the assumption is that's why she stopped. Years later one of her brothers said she had written to him during that time, and he regretted never responding to her letter. That was in 1980's, some of her 9 siblings had attempted to locate her but no success. Her name was not to be spoken in her parents home......her brother felt he would be disloyal to his mother if he responded to Dorothy's letter. It's my guess that people who knew her in CA. knew little or nothing of her family in Iowa. She had no children, health reasons my mother told me. >From conversation with Robert McCann's stepdaughter in the 1990, I learned he had been married 3 times. From what little she could recall, she thought both wives had died, he met & married her mother in 1960's. In another correspondence with a "McCann line", a lady going through her mother's McCann family research notes, found note Dorothy "died", but no date. Dorothy and Robert were listed in Modesto directories, that ceased just prior to 1940. I'm hoping the census will have her listed. I've had search of CA. vital records 1930's-1960, no records for my Dorothy May McCann. I did find she had married Kenneth Pitts 1934 in Reno NV. They were divorced Nov 1935. She married Robert Lee Edmond McCann Nov 1936 in Modesto. I'm the last generation left to search for her, I began in the 1980's. Her siblings have all died.
