I have a membership to NewspaperArchives and the Bee used to be there. Then it was pulled and Google had it. Now Google has dropped it. It's sad that it's been scanned and isn't available anywhere on line now. I can always visit the library but it was so easy when I couldn't sleep in the middle of the night to browse.....I don't have a membership to Ancestry - maybe when I retire from working full time. I do have a membership to the Godfrey Library which allows me to use NewspaperArchives, a membership to Genealogy Bank and membership in VitalSearch.....if any of these would help you please ask. Also, some were from my grandmother and mom's personal things. I was born in Modesto and lived for about 25 years of my life on the corner of Crows Landing and Whitmore Roads. My grandfathe bought the corner property in 1931, so they knew a lot of people in the Modesto, Ceres area. My grandmother and mom didn't throw anything away. On 17th Street, still standing at 915, is banker George Cressey's house, later owned by Dr. John Husband, who married Cressey's daughter. Today, it is an office building called Cressey Manor. ......At 1418 I St. were the James Apartments, built in 1912 and still standing; a home at 1500 originally owned by Gustav Bertram that was replaced by the new library construction; county Supervisor John McMahon and his family at 1521; at 1603, a dramatic tall Queen Anne Victorian built by farmer Willis Bledsoe; and at 1625, the home of Albert Cressey, the first president of the Modesto Bank in 1878 (the house was later owned by Mayor Carl Shannon and now sits at 917 Douglas Ave.)."
