You are a real chum! For the last 2 days, I've been feeling really DUMB: I was just about to send the foto of Annie Mauro's gravestone to Lewis Ruddick, with the comment that I didn't know of any connection between her and my family (Scharnhorst) - even tho I've had Census info on her (as Mrs Annie S.) for at almost 2 yrs! Fortunately, I got distracted before I sent the foto. It will be sent, but with amended information. I would, however, welcome obit info on Martje and her children, as they might give me more info on the family her daughter Annie married into (the Scharnhorsts). After Ernest's death (1939) she later became Annie Mauro, but I have found no other info, so far. I know you've got the obits on microfilm, but can't remember your process for getting the information to those who inquire. ?Are you making hardcopies and mailing, or are you able to convert to a digital file and send via the Web? Whatever, please let me know of any reproduction costs. Your help is really appreciated, and there's no rush on getting the info. Thanks and Happy New Year! Elizabeth Cook

Sorry. I didn't pay close enough attention to the CADI info. Other names searchable might be anyone in her birth family: KATTESTAART (which is mis-spelled in so many ways thru the decades that family members might just have given up on anyone getting it right). BTW, when we were in the area, we used the really wonderful Stanislaus Co Gen Soc indices of of cemeteries. That's how we were able to find the Scharnhorst gravestones. Have these indices been uploaded to the Web? All I can seem to find is the GenWeb Cemetery fotos project, to which I will be contributing the fotos of the gravestones for the 2 Scharnhorst brothers and Mrs Mauro. Happy New Year! Elizabeth Cook

A check of the Oakdale Museum's obit database reports that the following are on microfilm at the museum: Abraham K., Alma H., Cornelius, Everett, Ida S., Jacob J., Martje (Mary), and Reyer (Riley). In addition the Kattestaart family was very active in early Oakdale history so there should be lots of records in newspapers etc. Everyone new Riley as he was a real character. A check of the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery records indicate the following are buried here: Abraham K., Alma H., Cornelius, Jacob J., Martje (Mary), Reyer (Riley), Mae Elva and Minnie. I will not be able to acess these files until Friday but will let you know the results, but first I need to know which, maybe all, persons you are interested in. Have a Happy New Year. I am looking for information about Samuel Jackson Nichols, I believe born around 1868, possibly in VA. He was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren church community around Modesto. Oral information passed down through family members say he died in Modesto on July 31, 1937 of an accident involving falling off a runaway hay wagon, and that he is buried in the Woodlawn cemetery. We believe he moved to CA around 1918 with his wife, named Maragaret Anna and children. Somewhere around 1926 his wife died of cancer. Samuel Nichols is my (elderly) father-in-law's grandfather and is someone whom he knows very little about - particulary Samuel Nichols parents. Any information someone has on Samuel Nichols would be greatly appreciated. Samuel Nichols daughter, Neosha Nichols Beachler, is my father-in-law's line that I am tracing. Linda Bryan-Beachler
