The new home for the Cass list is ready to go. In a few minutes, I'll send out personal invitations to the subscribers of this list who wish to join the new group will be able to do so. I can not add members directly. It should be a link you can click that will let you 'accept' the invitation to join the new group. You may need to check your spam folder as I can't say when such will be delivered. If you don't find an invitation in your email you may also go to this site - https://groups.io/g/CASS-genealogy and select Join Group. Folks may continue to post to this list through tomorrow 3/1. As of now, the Cass list has 64 subscribers. In light of Rootsweb's decision to close this list and every other list on March 2nd, with the current administrator's blessing, I have set up a new home for this list. In my next email, I'll send you further information regarding this and how to join the new home for this list. Tim Stowell Chattanooga

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Marie H. CASS which was taken at the Hastings Studio in Boston, MA sometime in the 1880's or 1890's. Marie appears to be in her teens at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Marie and her family: Marie Henrietta CASS was b. 8 Sept 1872 in Boston, MA to parents Henry N. or H. CASS (b. 1843 in Holland-d. 1890) and Laura Johanna W. BOTTCHER or BATCHER (b. 1845 in Germany- d.1921). Marie had at least two siblings, Hermina Wiebke CASS (1867-1945); and Laura Louisa CASS (1869-1957). Marie married George A. DEW (b. 1871 at Manchester, MA-d. 1943 - son of George W. DEW and Susan S. BURNHAM) in Melrose, MA on 8 Sept 1896 and they had a son George A. DEW who died 23 Oct 1900 in Melrose, MA at the age of less than one year. Marie died 16 Sept 1932 in Corvallis, OR and is buried in the Crystal Lake Cemetery in Corvallis, OR. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Melrose, MA: George A. DEW, age 29, born Feb 1871, married 4 years, born MA, parents born Canada/MA, a Promoter Marie H. DEW, wife, age 26, born Sept 1873, married 4 years, 1 child/1 living, born MA, parents born Germany/Holland George A. DEW, son, age 5 months, born Dec 1899, born MA 1910 census of Caldwell, ID: George A. DEW, age 39, married 13 years, born MA, parents born England/MA, a Store Bookkeeper Marie H. DEW, wife, age 37, married 13 years, 2 children/1 living, born MA, parents born Holland/Germany Laurence F. DEW, son, age 6, born ID 1920 census of Cambridge, ID: George A. DEW, age 48, born MA, parents born New Brunswick/MA, an Insurance Agent Marie DEW, wife, age 47, born MA, parents born Holland/Germany Laurence DEW, son, age 16, born ID Marie DEW, dau, age 9, born ID 1930 census of Corvallis, OR: George A. DEW, age 59, 26 years old when married, born MA, parents born Canada/MA, Chief Gardner at College Marie H. DEW, wife, age 57, 23 years old when married, born MA, parents born Holland/Germany Laurence DEW, son, age 27, born ID, a Contractor/Carpenter Marie DEW, dau, age 19, born ID, a College Stenographer I'm hoping to locate someone from Marie's family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of her family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
CASS is one of the surnames included in this study. I'm forwarding this message at the request of the admin of the Corca Laidhe list. The first link below gives a good overview of the DNA study. Gene Phillips List Admin --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction to the Corca Laidhe message list: The goals of the project are to see if DNA can corroborate the genealogies of the Corca Laide and to identify the DNA signatures of the surnames in those genealogies. Currently the focus is on building a haplotype database for names said to have sprung from the Corca Laidhe. The data is made available to other investigators and family historians for analysis as may suit their purpose on the project website at http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Corca_Laidhe/ The genealogy of the Corca Laidhe is described by John O'Donovan in his treatise published in 1849 by the Celtic Society in the book "Miscellany of the Celtic Society". The book is online as both a scanned copy and a transcribed copy; see:' http://ia700302.us.archive.org/7/items/miscellanyofcelt00celt/miscellanyofcelt00celt.pdf http://www.ucc.ie/celt/published/T105009/index.html The genealogy is not straight forward, there is conflicting information in O'Donovan and only a few of the names have pedigrees. There are other sources to consider. A subsidiary purpose of the project is to compile the genealogy of the Corca Laidhe so that pertinent data is collected. I, Colin Ferguson, act as the project admin and the project spun off of the Driscoll project which I also administer. Co-Admin Janet Crawford is an avid researcher of the Corca Laidhe, being descended from Cuileannain, hereditary chief of the Corca Laidhe. Co-Admin Martha Bowes is Admin of the Bowes DNA Project and is archive holder for the Guild of One-Name Studies on behalf of the Bowes. This list provides a means for interested parties to contribute to the project via discussion of both the DNA data and the attendant genealogy of the Corca Laidhe. Such discussion is essential as assistance is required with both technical issues and in research on particular surnames. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Arthur Lyle CASS which was taken at the Ball Studio in Beaver City, Nebraska. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Arthur indicated as 1 year old at the time it was taken. In addition to his name and age someone has written "Father and Mother CASS" on the back of the photograph as well. I am hoping to locate someone from this CASS Family so that the photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Hi, I am trying to make contact with Cindy Hoxie - a CASS descendant and researcher from about 10 years ago. If you know her, would you please forward this note to her? I would like to talk to her about Chloa (Manley) Cass. Thanks!
Linda Green is not a member of this list. You will need to contact her directly about the bible. <[email protected]> Gene Phillips Cass List Admin

I'm looking for a Dan Scott who posted in Sept 1999 about James Cass. My name is Bonnie Sinclair Floyd. My mother was a Cass. I believe I am a descendant of James S Cass and Elizabeth Moody. My mother was Norma Rosamond Cass, daughter of Moses Aaron Cass and Vera Lucille Grubb. Moses was the son of George Washington and Victoria Cass. George Washington Cass was the son of John and Nancy Cass. I would appreciate anybody information you can give me. I'm new to this research and sort of lost.
My wife's cousin Mollie Cass died a few years ago, and the world is a little less fun now that she's no longer with us. I first met her more than 50 years ago, and grew, like everyone else in the family, to love and admire her merry & brave approach to life. Never did she, in our hearing, mention having any siblings, and so we were ASTONISHED to find a brother, Ralph D. Cass, mentioned in a recently uploaded WorldConnect file. A little bit of research threw up his birth registration (3rd Qtr 1900 at Reading, Berks, England, (Volume 2c, Page 365), as Ralph Dimmock Cass - Dimmock being his & Mollie's mother's maiden name. So he did indeed exist! Next we looked for either his marriage or death using various sources - nothing. Did he emigrate? Perhaps, so we tried the newly available Outgoing Passenger Lists 1890-1960, and Bingo! Last name/First name/Born/Departure/From/To/Port CASS/Ralph Demmock/1901/1919/Liverpool/Peru/Callao (Lima) CASS/Ralph Dimmock/1900/1923/Bristol/Panama/Cristobal And there, for the moment, the trail runs cold - except for a possible US Social Security Death Record in 1979, in Montgomery, Ohio . . . . Can anyone help ?? Don
You can request a copy of the Social Securtiy Card application by the possible Ralph D Cass who died in 1979. They charge a fee. But it ususally has good bio information when received. Just Google the SS Administration. Can't think of the form name at the moment. Janet Nelson.
