    1. [CASPER] Peter Casper family
    2. C. Ann Schele
    3. I have never found a connection for the Bertie County Casper line to the Casper line of Rowan County NC. I am related to the Rowan County family. The Union and Pulaski County, IL line is also related to the Rowan County family. I can get the documentation for you if you are need it. There were 2 Peter Casper's that moved their families to IL in the 1800's . The earliest of them moved in the 1830's & was the only Son of Conrad Casper and Catherine. Peter married Esther Fullenwider and had Alexander, Eliza, Stephen, Caleb, Henry, Elnora,Catherine, Esther, Peter H., and Anna.(Birthdates and some descendant's available on request). The other Peter Casper family moved to IL.in 1850 & was the Nephew of Conrad. He married Catherine Frick and their children were, Adam, John, Charles, Moses, Daniel, William, Eve Caroline, Simeon, & Margaret. ( Dates and family information available also on request) Both Peter's were named for their Grandfather Peter of the Rowan County Line. The Rowan County line moved to Rowan County from Hunterdon County,New Jersey about 1777 or 78. Hope this helps. Ann caschele@sigecom.net

    2. Cathy: I too am of the CASPER line (wherever that may be). My grandfather Benjamin Orville Casper son of Samuel Anthony Casper born in Cincinnati Ohio 1849. My great grandmother, Rhoda Anne Brown (Sams Wife) and Sam are buried in Coleraine, Itasca, MN in 1925. Ben was born in Prairie City, Iowa. Most of Sam & Rhodas kids I believe are in MN. I haven't been able to track them as of late. Ben and his wife Carrie Susie emigrated to Alberta in 1905 thereabouts. Most of the family lost track of the Canadian slipaways, as such the family in Canada stands unto itself (I guess). I'm still looking also try Rootsweb: Leonard and Sarah Kimbrough Brown Family http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ dansgen/. Good luck, Mac McCallum

    3. Dave and Jim, My Cosper line is believed to be with the Pennsylvania Jacob Cosper's. I haven't found the one link that I need to prove this, but have accumulated a lot of data on that family. It is written in a county historical book that this family was of Dutch ancestry. Sorry I can't be of more help, Carolyn ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim To: CASPER-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, October 11, 2002 6:45 PM Subject: Re: [CASPER] CASPER/COSPER Connections Carolyn and Dave, I have been trying to find a connection between the Rowan County (my branch) Caspers and the Bertie County Caspers for years with no luck. I've spoken with other Casper researchers and they have all ran into the same "brick wall." In addition to the Rowan County / Bertie Connection I would give almost anything to find where in Germany our family is from. Research shows the Caspers to have once been most heavily situated in the Pfalz and Bavarian regions but today they are found throught-out Germany. If either of you ever find the answers to these two questions PLEASE let me know. Thanks ! Jim Casper mystikal1@netdot.com Subject: Re: [CASPER] CASPER/COSPER Connections Carolyn, I find it hard to believe that those Bertie County Caspers are not somehow connected to the Rowan County Caspers, but my knowledge of Caspers in general is very spotty. In re your desire to know more about Peter Caspers family...there were a multitude of Peter Caspers who were descended from the Conrad who moved to Rowan County about 1775. I thought I had pegged one Peter Casper family as being one that moved to Union County IL in the early 1800's because some gravestones in the Mt.Pisgah Lutheran Cemetery there seemed to match a Peter Casper's family I had found on the internet in names and dates, but when I mentioned it to an acquaintance, she said that couldn't be, because she is descended from that Peter Casper. The Peter I'm talking about was married to Catherine Frick, and one of the graves was Catherine Casper who was the same age as Catherine Frick. Another grave in that proximity, by the way, was Wiley Casper who was apparently killed in the Civil War on the Northern side. The above mentioned Peter Casper did not have a Wiley, but did have a William. He also had a Simeon, another of the graves in that cemetery. I came across all that while looking for the parents of Julian Casper who married Rufus Miller. They were both from Rowan County, and Julian's grave was near Catherine Casper's grave. You see the problem! The acquaintance mentioned above is Pat Beck, pbbecksalisburync@cbil... (my address book doesn't show the last part, but you will find her in the Casper forum of GenForum). Let me know if you come across something interesting. 3. This post reminded me that I am still a member of this list! I haven't researched this line for three years. Here is my line. Are there any others out there who fit this line? Does this line tie into the Peter Casper line from Rowan County, NC? Thomas Casper (about 1765-1827, Bertie County, NC) and Edith Barnes Kenneth Casper (1806 Bertie County, NC to 1872, Bertie County, NC) and Emilia Jane Anderson Calvin Thomas Casper (about 1837 Bertie County. Death unsure. Served in Civil War, I have his records.) and Lavonia Powell. They were married 1857. James Knox Casper (1869 Bertie County, NC to Sept. 14, 1944 Gates Co., NC) and Ada Southerland (2nd wife.) Wiley Dillard Casper (1893-1965 Lenoir County, NC) Vance Allen Casper (living) and Lula Heath (Lenoir Co., NC) Robert Allen Casper (living) and Cathy Irene Moore (living) Dashiell, Dylan and Dalton Casper (living) I have extended lines of this family if you think you connect, or if anyone is interested in the information. I have found no connection to Peter Casper of Rowan County, NC. Thomas lives much further east of Rowan County in Bertie County, NC. His birth date would make him a young man during the Rev. War. There may be no connection at all. Does anyone have a descendant tree of this Peter Casper? I believe that they were of the German community there and married in to the Smith family. Thanks for any input and info. 1. [CASPER] IMPORTANT - server downtime in the next few days
    2. List Administrator
    3. Hi all, Rootsweb is upgrading their servers. As lists will be moved to the new machines, there will be downtime. No messages are expected to get lost, just a delay in posting. Messages boards are not affected. See below part of the message I got from Rootsweb. Please be patient and don't repost the messages, they will show up eventually. Ines o List Administrators: When the time comes to move list servers, we will be halting operation on the machine to complete the move. We expect to have the machines down the least amount of time possible. No mail will be sent from or posted to your mailing lists. We do not expect to lose any messages. o Board Administrators: Nothing, unless your board happens to be gatewayed to a mailing list then the information for list administrators apply. o Web Pages: FTP will be down so that changes can't be made to pages until everything is working correctly on the new servers. There will be a short time that the pages will not be available as the transfer takes place.

    3. Good morning, My wife's great-grandmother is (9) Irena CASPER, born 16 Sep 1851 in Glen, Montgomery Co. (NY), dead 17 Sep 1935 in Claverack, Columbia Co. (NY). When an orphan in 1858, she went to East Palmyra to live with her uncle Peter VAN DERHOOF. On 7 June 1877 in Nassau, Rensselaer Co. (NY) she married (8) Refine Latting ROSSMAN. They had 5 children. The sketchy ancestry I have for Irena CASPER is as follows. (18) Felix CASPER (15 June 1820 Germany - 16 Dec 1857 Ephratah, Fulton Co. NY) m. (19) Sarah VAN DERHOOF (1821 Glen, Montgomery Co. NY - 20 Oct 1858 Ephratah). They had 5 children. (36) Felix CASPER m. (37) Catherine COPPER. 7 children. (38) Adam VAN DERHOOF m. (39) Mary KRUM. 10 children. Does it connect with your roots. I would love to know more about Irena's ancestors. Christian Christian Feuillet Beltsville, Maryland, USA

    3. I found a note in some research papers I "inherited" which said, "Peter Casper is buried with his wife and other posterity in the family cemetery near Eggbornsville, Culpeper County, VA." Can anyone verify this for me or point me in the direction of available records? Peter died 1817 in Boston, Culpepper, VA and was supposedly buried 18 May 1817 in Eggbornsville. His wife was Mary Huckleberry and children Mary, Catherine, Ann, William and Elizabeth. Sheri Lynn Lemon

    2. Roberta Watson
    3. I am looking for any information as to the ancestry of Peter CASPER, b. 1727 in Hamburg, Germany, d. abt 1817 in Boston, Culpeper County, Virginia, buried May 18, 1817 in Culpeper, Virginia, m. 1762 Mary HUCKLEBERRY, b. 1729 Germany, d. 1818 Boston, Culpeper, Virginia and buried in Culpeper, Culpeper, Virginia. The only info I have on Peter's ancestors are that his father was William CASPER, b. 1705 in Germany, William's father was Johannes CASPER, b. abt. 1658 in Germany, and Johannes's father was also Johannes CASPER, b. abt. 1632 in Germany. I have nothing on the ancestry of Peter's wife Mary. Also, I have seen sources that reported Peter and Mary as being in New York, although my family information has them living and dying in Culpeper County. Their son William CASPER, b. July 30, 1784, Boston, Culpeper, Virginia, headed west with the Mormons, marrying Avarilla DURBIN (b. November 26, 1789, Washington, Pennsyvania, d. September 04, 1862, Lafayette, Missouri) on March 04, 1809 in Knox, Ohio, and dying in Nauvoo, Illinois on August 04, 1846. Peter and Mary also had four daughters. Mary Polly CASPER married Benjamin THRAILKILL. Her three sisters, Ann, Catherine and Elizabeth CASPER, married Augustine SMITH, Joel SMITH, and Hedgeman or Hegeman SMITH, all sons of Joel SMITH and Mary TAYLOR, of Culpeper Virginia. Many of Ann's descendants appear to have remained (for a time, at least, in the Culpeper vicinity. Catherine and Joel went to Kentucky, and their son to Missouri. Any info on the above, particularly the ancestry of Peter and Mary, would be greatly appreciated, and I'm happy to share what info I have. I am posting this on Lists fo Germanna, Culpeper and Casper; please forgive the duplication.
