    3. In the hills above Guerneville in the Redwood Township lived the newly arrived PENNA family. Arriving from Italy on 1-2 Jan 1906, Giovanna Penna, age 21 made the journey to San Francisco by train with her two boys, Guido, nearly 4 and Albino nearly 2. Agostino Penna had followed his brother Giovanni to America the year before. Giovanni and Agostino had a cabin in the hills near the old Cinnabar mine. On the morning of April 18, Guido remembered being awakened while it was still dark by a massive shaking of the cabin, things falling, dishes breaking, and his mother screaming. After all was still and they were all safe outside, their mother was afraid to go back into the cabin. She was also afraid her little boys might run off and be lost. So she took a rope and tied it around their waists and tied the other ends to a tree. "Like little puppies", Guido remembered. Later he also recalled seeing the red glow in the sky at night from the fires. After Santa Rosa started rebuilding, the family moved there and lived near the corner of Hewett and Hudspeth for several years. "rwalker"
