I would look in the census prior to 1930 for them living together, and then look for her by name in the 1905+ death records to get a death date before looking for an obituary for her. I did check the 1937 records for your John Francis, but with no obvious matches. Can you give me a date of birth for him and his daughter and her name? I will see what I can find for you. My grandfather (John Francis O'Brien) was admitted to Napa State Hospital in 1932 by his daughter. He died in 1937 and his death certificate stated his residence was Sonoma County. It also stated he was a widower at the time he was committed by his daughter. By any chance, is there a way to find his wife's name and date of death. An obituary (O'Brien) for her would state she is survived by her husband, John Francis O'Brien and a daughter. There may have been more children that I am not aware of. Her death would have been prior to 1932 and probably in Sonoma County. Any ideas how to locate her? Ah, the plot thickens. No name for the daughter or wife. John Francis was born in 1856 in SF and died at Napa State Hospital 19 Dec 1937 at age 81. He was there from 1932 until his death. I know his daughter put him there as my father found him there in 1936 and tried to get him out. He told my brother at the time that his half sister put him there. My father did not get along with that side of the family. My father is from John Francis's first marriage. The daughter is from a second marriage after 1888.
