He was a merchant on the Mississippi River. His son, George Wilkinson, was a steamboat captain after the Civil War, in New Orleans. He married Georgianna Langdon, daughter of John & Eliza Langdon. George is buried in the Whitten cemetery in Panola, Miss. John's wife was Jane Caroline Whitten, daughter of John, from Laurens, South Carolina. The daughters were Sarah Jane Davison, Martha Edwards and Rachel Stockton. All moved to San Francisco between 1866-1870, where their children were born.
