Also, the pattern you describe is an important pattern for Healdsburg, also called Mendocino Township. Many of the early settlers of Healdsburg and nearby areas had very, very close ties. There is a pattern of going from Virginia through S. Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, into Missouri and then to Sonoma county.
