The California Death Index: Joyce Berg, died 24 March 1972, born 30 January 1928 in England, died in Sonoma County. SSN 010-26-4868. This person would have been 44. Social Security Numbers beginning with 010- would have been issued in Massachusetts. The Social Security Death Index: Joyce Berg, died March 1972, born 10 Sep 1925, SSN 560-28-9462 issued in California before 1951. This person would have been 46. The Sonoma County Recorder has a document filed June 6, 1972 concerning the Joyce Berg Estate, the associated name was Robert E. Berg. This does match with the information you provided. There was also a deed recorded in November 1969. The recorder's website does not provide the address or other information on the property, probably due to "privacy" concerns. The property was deeded to another party in January 1974. There is no additional records for Robert E in that county. You could obtain a copy of the deed information to identify where they owned the property, the County Recorder might just identify the name of the city without having to order the documents. http://www.sonoma-county.org/recorder/searching.asp It appears from your posting, the first death identified is the one you seek. Does the background match with your person? It appears they did live there, the publishment of an obituary would depend on how long the person had lived there and if the family members wanted one published. In this case they lived there at least a year and four months before she passed. The quickest/best approach would be to order the image of his application for his Social Security Number (SSN). The application would be in his handwriting (normally, although some were typed, but between 1949/Naturalization and before 1951/Date identified as being received most were handwritten). http://genealogy.about.com/od/online_records/a/ss5_request.htm The information on this form would be information provided by him. Information in an obituary, if found, would depend on what information the writers knew. Information on a death certificate would depend on what information the Informant knew. The County Recorder for Sonoma County does have records in the name of David Thomas Jones, David Thomas and Carla D Jones, David T and Florence O Jones; but, there is not enough information to identify if the name provided was the correct one. He was born in 1837 in Canton, Ticino, Switzerland,(parents/siblings unknown)he sailed from Liverpool, England arriving in the Colony of Victoria Australia in 1856. MADDALENA A funeral for Edward J. Maddalena, a longtime Petaluma rancher and businessman, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Sorensen Funeral Home, Petaluma. Maddalena, 65, died Monday near Jackson. He had collapsed while on a fishing vacation. Maddalena was a lifelong Petaluma resident and had operated a dairy ranch for many years. For the past 35 years he had owned and operated Maddalena Inc., a dairy equipment business. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Antonietta Matteri Maddalena; a son, Richard Maddalena; a daughter, Caroline D'Amore; a brother, Frank Maddalena; a sister, Emma Ruzsicska, all of Petaluma; and two grandchildren.
