On his marriage certificate he said his parents were John O'Brien and Lucy(McRae)O'Brien. And that they were both from Ireland. He said he was born in Guerneville, CA. I'm not finding much for either parent. And I'm finding less about him! He abandoned his wife and 4 children in about 1927 or 28. they, his wife was Della Wilson, met and were married in Walla Walla, WA. But although he told them he had a brother, they never met any of his family. His wife said he lied so much, they didn't know what to trust. 'Marcia' FUDGED her year of birth when she married Walter Bruce Warren who apparently went by 'Bruce.' She was the daughter of Daniel Webster Burchard and his first wife Mary Josephine Broaddus (see Find a Grave for Daniel Webster Burchard, Mountain View Cem, San Francisco). Daniel and his first wife had just two girls: Marcia Mildred Burchard born Nov 17 1877 and her sister Mary Josephine Burchard born Dec 28 1878. CA death index had Marcia Mildred Warren as born 1884--no way. Her mom died in 1878 but she was marrying a younger man so I figure she fudged a little. I need to find out if this couple had any children or descendants. Possibly an obit could help. I'd also like to find out where she was buried. Marcia Mildred (Burchard) Warren died in SONOMA county Jan 29, 1950. Her husband Walter Bruce Warren remarried in 1951 but he died 6 Apr 1969 in SONOMA Co. He was the son of John Parker Warren and Elizabeth Brieth. Walter Bruce Warren married 3 times: 1st to Caroline A. Martin who died 22 May 1920 2nd to Marcia Mildred Burchard in 1934 3rd to Effie Long Carrico in 1951 ANY AND ALL HELP APPRECIATED. I'VE HIT A DEAD END ON THIS ONE Daughter of Daniel Webster Burchard and his first wife Mary Josephine Broaddus. Marcia Mildred Burchard married late in life. She married in 1934 a widower, Walter Bruce Warren b. 11 Mar 1882 d. 6 Apr 1969 Sonoma Co CA. He was the son of John Parker Warren and Elizabeth Brieth. (His first wife was Caroline A. Martin who died 22 May 1920.) It appears that Marcia may have 'fudged' her age to appear to be a younger woman as the CA death index had her born Nov 17 1882 which is incorrect. Her mother died Dec 31, 1878 just after Marcia Mildred Burchard's sister Mary Josephine Burchard was born. Her husband Walter Bruce Warren went on to marry a 3rd time in 1951 in Las Vegas, NV, to Effie Long Carrico. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I haven't been able to find obituaries for the requested people (I live 1/2 hr away and don't get to the Genealogical library very often), but there are several articles or mentions of other Haweses: William H Hawes, Alphus Peter Hawes, H. Q. Hawes, Eleanor Hawes, Muriel Hawes, Horace Hawes, Jr, Susan Hawes, and a Shirley Hawes. Do any of these mean anything to you? I do find Alvin mentioned in a publication called "Graton- Images of America" dated 2009 Annex R 979.418 Hope that helps. JAMES R. MELSON, of the firm of Kuykendall & Melson, contractors and builders, has been a resident of Sonoma County four years. He is a native son of California, born in El Dorado County, thirty-four years ago. His father, Isom Melson, came with his father from Indiana, during the early gold excitement, to California, and engaged in mining for a number of years. Some years ago he returned to the East and settled in Missouri, where he still lives. The subject of this sketch is one of four children, one sister being deceased and two sisters living in "Washington Territory. Mr. Melson learned the carpenter's trade in Sutter County, and for the past eight years has been steadily engaged in the building business. He contracted for buildings, in partnership with a brother-in-law, in Sutter County, and after leaving that place in 1883, he worked one season in Mendocino County, where he erected a number of buildings and then came to Santa Rosa. After working a year for another contractor, he launched out in business for himself. In 18S7 he formed a partnership with Mr. Kuykendall, which continues to the present time. They have erected about twenty-live buildings, principally residences, and have now (August, 1888) four under contract, costing from §3,000 to $4,000 each. They employ an average of thirteen skilled mechanics, paying the most of them $3 per day. Mr. Melson also designs buildings when desired. He was married October 12, 1885, to a lady who was born in Norway, reared in Minnesota from her early girlhood, and who came to California some years ago. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Swenson, were among the early settlers in New London, Minnesota, and are now residents of Santa Rosa. Mr. Swenson owns and operates a tannery near the Santa Rosa brewery. Mr. and Mrs. Melson have one child—-a son. In a message dated 2/21/2012 12:21:48 P.M.
