    1. NUNES tombstone found
    2. Jeremy Nichols
    3. Tombstone Amnesty is searching for the cemetery in which a recently located tombstone belongs. The tombstone was found in Sebastopol, Sonoma County, California and is engraved Manuel Nunes Beloved son Marino & Mary Nunes Died Jan 22, 1914 Aged 4 yrs & 8 mos In the 1900 US Census, Marino Nunes appears as a young man in Marin County, California. In 1910, he cannot be found. In 1920, he and his family are in Merced County, California. The parents were born in Portugal and the children in California. Manuel Nunes does not appear in the California Death Index or in cemetery records in either Marin or Sonoma counties in California. (A request to Merced County is pending.) Tombstone Amnesty requests the assistance of the CA-Sonoma mailing list to locate the cemetery from which this tombstone was removed. Any information on this family would be appreciated. These people may be related to the family that has been dairy farmers in the Point Reyes-Tomales area for generations. Tombstone Amnesty's purpose is to return lost/strayed/stolen tombstones to their proper cemetery. This is best done if there is an organization in each county of each state. Local historical and genealogical societies are appropriate organizations to host a branch of Tombstone Amnesty. Interested persons should contact the undersigned. -- Jeremy Dwight Nichols, Cemeterian Tombstone Amnesty of Sonoma County Santa Rosa, California

    3. Donna, Here's what I found on the Heritage Books Archive CD "Sonoma County (CA) Records, Volume 1, under Sonoma County CA Reconstructed 1890 census [which used many resources] Schukowsky, Frederick August W. age 45 laborer, comments: 13 Jul 1875 San Francisco, CA. born Germany residence Sonoma Township, source: Great Register of Voters. Then I looked at my Great Register of Voters CALIFORNIA 1890 CD, also from Heritage Quest and this is what is there: Schukowsky, Frederick August age 45 b. Germany, Resident Sonoma township, Sonoma County, registered 26 March 1888, Naturalized citizen, page 77 I would infer from this information that he was 45 on March 26, 1888. Hope this helps.
