Most of the old growth trees are gone now but there are still a lot of beautiful redwoods in the area.
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Wilfred W. LEGGETT which was taken at the Pougall Studio in Santa Rosa, California. The photograph was likely taken sometime in the 1880's with Wilfred noted as age 9 months old at the time. In addition to his name and age someone has also written the date 7 May 1902 and the note "was 11 years old 16th of April 1902" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research and thanks to the assistance of a LEGGETT Family Researcher I believe that this is a photograph of William Wilfred LEGGETT b. 16 April 1891 in California to parents Albert E. LEGGETT and Althea Louise BALLOU. William Wilfred and his wife Genevieve had a son William Wilfred LEGGETT b. 27 June 1924 in CA. In 1900 the family was living in Santa Rosa, CA with census records providing the following information: A. E. LEGGETT, age 39, born May 1861, married 12 years, born IA, parents born OH/IN, a Farmer Althea LEGGETT, wife, age 32, born Mar 1868, married 12 years, 1 child/1 living, born CA, parents born NY/PA Wilfred LEGGETT, son, age 8, born Apr 1891, born CA, in School In 1910 the family remained in Santa Rosa, CA with census records providing the following information: Albert E. LEGGETT, son, age 18, born CA Elsie R. LEGGETT, dau, age 7, born CA Still in Santa Rosa, CA in 1920 the family was recorded in the census as follows: Albert LEGGETT, age 58, born IA, parents born OH/IN, a Farmer Althea LEGGETT, wife, age 52, born CA, parents born NY/PA Wilfred LEGGETT, son, age 28, born CA Elsie LEGGETT, dau, age 17, born CA I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. My uncle was Bernard Hugh Roarty, born around 1916, died in 1975. To know knowledge, Bernard and Elizabeth didn't have any children of their own, but Elizabeth had a child from a previous marriage. My inquiry has more to do with Bernard, as he was estranged from his family (all except my father) but we never knew reasons as to why. I know my father has always wondered, and whether the reasons were simple, complicated or because something bad happened, he has a desire to know. If this sounds familiar, I'd love to hear more from you.

Charles died in 1885 and I can find no further record of Louisa. She was only 29 at the time of his death and may well have remarried. She had a sister Emma who married Evan Jones and I believe they lived in Turin. I can find Louisa Bellinger in the 1880 census living in Popes Mill. Her sister Emma Peck was living with her at the time. I have also found the real estate records buying and selling the hotel. (Lewis County records). I would like to identify the Peck family that Louisa and Emma are from. There may well have been other brothers and sisters. I would also like to know what became of my great grandmother after the death of her husband.
