    3. I don't live in California, but did find these references. There is indeed some confusion about your grandfather's name: Arthur, Joseph, John, Henry; and his mother's maiden name. I would start by writing off for his social security application which should give his parents' names; and try to locate an obituary from February 1942. Also, his birth day appears to be Sept 7. Once you have his parent's names you might have more luck locating him in the 1920 and 1930 census - I didn't find any obvious matches looking just for him - his first name is too ambiguous and his surname rather common. Good Luck. It could be Pailen or most anything else, I guess. I have been trying to find a grave and haven't had much luck.

Emmelina was kind of a long handle for a teenager. At any rate, she came over to the US in July of 1908 from Liverpool at age 18 on The Umbria. Mystery solved. I have emailed the Contra Costa Library System for a copy of Emmelina's obit & will be contacting the SF Library for her mother's 1934 obit...apparently they require a written snail mail request

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YW.2ADI/4223 Message Board Post: My great-great-great aunt was Jennie Healey Reed, wife of George Reed, both born in Canada (Jennie born circa 1874). They came to Santa Rosa in 1908 from Spokane, Washington, where they lived for a few years. I have all kinds of info. on Jennie - sometime around 1910 she and George had a child who appears in the 1920 census as "Minto". In the 1920s they divorced and she remarried to Alfred Beechman. Jennie died in Sonoma in 1944 and I have her obit. It says she had a son, James A. Reed of the U.S. Army. Perhaps James and Minto are the same person. Does anyone know anything about him? Also, Jennie's mother Esther Chapman Healey, born Canada circa 1852, may have lived with them and died in Sonoma, probably pre-1910 as she is not in the census. I have traced Jennie pretty well, but would love to know more about her son, and if he had any children.

I first saw the name of the town in Rose's brother's mortuary record, and there it was Flatters Springs. When I could not find it on the Internet, I checked out all the "Springs" towns and found Fetters Hot Springs, which was confirmed on Rose's death certificate. I'm finding mortuary records to be a wealth of information for genealogists! I haven't found any information on Rose for years! I knew nothing of her other than when she lived at home with her parents, so the last I saw of her, she was 9 years old. With her married name and place of residence, what a find! Now, to find her in the 1900 thru 1930 censuses! I've seen a Mrs. Baily in her mother's obituary but no residence, and it has to be her, but try to find a Rose Baily, even with Soundex, that fits her! Here I thought I was all set to know everything about her, but nooo! Also, I have her husband's name, together with residence in 1943, so one might think I could then find other informatio! n on him but there are many, many Charles Wells and his middle initial of "S." does not help. Actually, I am very grateful to have found her, all griping aside. Someday... Thanks for your help, Bob!
