This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: casner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xBI.2ACIB/101 Message Board Post: I am seeking information on a George Casner (d. app 1860) who married Susan Nicholson (d. app 1864) One of their children was James A Casner of Kentucky. All I know is that he was born in Germany and arrived in New Jersey. Any info would be appreciated
Well, here it is Christmas Day. Hoping that there are people who have just gotten online that might be researching my same CASNER/CARSNER family so I am reposting. Henry Casner married Jincy Jane Fields in 1822 in Ray Co., MO (he died in 1847 in Marion Co., IA; she died in 1884 in Yavapai Co., AZ). They had thirteen known children: (1) John Casner born 1822; married, had two sons. (2) Benjamin Casner born 1824; all that is known of him is while the family was in IA (3) William 'Bill' Casner born 1825; murdered in 1877 in West TX. (4) Ebenezer Casner born 1832; all that is known of him is while the family was in IA. (5) Jonas 'James' Carsner born in 1827; married, had eight children; died in OR in 1864. (6) David Casner born in 1832; last record of him is in CA. (7) Andrew Jackson Carsner; born 1836; married, had 12 children; died in 1890 in OR (8) Daniel 'Dan' Casner, born in 1837; murdered in 1877 in West TX (9) Moses 'Mose' H. Casner, born in 1837, died in 1912 in Yavapai Co., AZ (10) Nancy Jane Casner; born in 1839; married Harvey Fields, had 3 children; died in 1892 in Linn Co., OR (11) James 'Jim' A. Carsner born 1839; married twice, unknown if had children; died about 1890 probably in OR (12) Henry Casner born in 1840; last record is in mid 1860s in OR; may have been killed in 1865 in Linn Co., OR (13) Riley Casner born in 1843; married twice, had a total of 17 children; died in 1909 in Yavapai Co., AZ I have information that I have obtained in my research on this family that I am willing to exchange with other Casner/Carsner researchers/descendants - perhaps we can answer questions for one another. This family is almost unbelievable, some very tragic circumstances; most of the boys struck it rich in the CA gold fields; they roved around the Pacific Northwest and West and have been very elusive. And yes, the name is spelled both ways. If there are Casner/Carsner researchers/descendants out there, I would love to hear from you.
There is a Rosemary CASNER (born 1921 died 1923) buried in the Middle Verde Road Cemetry, Camp Verde, Yavapai County, AZ. Could someone tell me to which Casner family she belongs? I have to think she is the granddaughter of Riley Casner. But which son would she belong to - Riley had several sons.
Hello Leona and List Leona, your line and my line are one and the same. Claude Michael Casner ( b 2-10-1922 d 6-25-1989 OR) Lillian Lavaughn Terry (b6-28-1924 d.10-30-1994 Multnomah Co., OR) is of my Casner/Carsner line. Claude and Lillian were married circa 1945 in Fort Smith, Sebastain Co., AR (I am endeavoring to find a marriage record for them at this time). Anyway, the father of Claude Michael Casner (b2-10-1922) was Frank Porter Casner (b4-29-1884 Haskell Co., TX d10-2-1963 NM). The wife of Frank Porter Casner was Fannie Trammell (b7-9-1894 d7-4-1930). Fannie was killed in a car wreck. Many of her descendant relatives live in Roger Mills County, OK. The fatehr of Frank Porter Casner was John Lewis Casner. The father of John Lewis Casner was John Casner. The father of John Casner was Henry Casner. The father of Henry Casner was Jonas Casner. I show only one son for Claude Michael Casner (b2-10-1922) that being Anthony Edward Casner. Apparently Claude and Lillian had other children, including Jason. Does Jason have brothers/sisters? Could you share their names, etc. I have extensive information on the Casner family (really extensive) that I am willing to exchange/share information. The Casner family migrated from MO/IA to OR in 1852. There was a split in the family circa late 1860s; in 1875 many of the casners (including John Casner) migrated to AZ. Those going to AZ retained Casner as the spellilng of the name. Those remaining in the Pacific NW changed the spelling to CARSNER. Hello everyone, hope that everything is going good and your finding everyone you need to. My niece Patti (have permission to use her name) married into the Christy family of Oregon. Apart of this family is the Casner family. This is what I have to date. I wish more but thats why there is this wonderful list. Claude Michael Casner b. 2-10-1922 d. 6-25-1989 Oregon he married Lillian or Lillia This is all that I have to date, Jason is sending in for the death certificate of Claude to find out who his parents were. But between waiting on that I am posting in the hopes that maybe I can surprise him for Christmas with a nice Family Tree. What a gift to someone that is truely interested in his history. Leona
I am endeavoring to locate information on James A. 'Jim' CARSNER (often spelled CASNER). He is one of twelve sons of Henry Casner and Jincy Jane Fields Casner. He was born 12-1839 MO and died sometime after June 1890. He migrated from MO/IA in 1852 to OR with his mother and 10 of his siblings (his father died in 1847 in IA). He first married Clementine Hayworth on 5-19-1858 in Linn Co., OR. His second marriage was to Sarah R. Olney on 12-1-1883 in Grant Co., OR. He is found on the 1890 Utamilla County, OR Veterans Census. What became of his two wives? Did he have children? What became of any children? When and where did he die?

I have much confusion about the Casner interaction with my Annable family. Family lore says my GGGGgrandfather, Isaac Annable, married first about 1760 to a Casner (given name unknown) and he remarried in 1762 so I don't know what happened to her. A daughter of his, later on, married a Casner who was called a "cousin". A book that contains information on my family is: TheHomefolk Book on the Family of Darius Myers published in the 1920s. It says that Isaac Annable (or Hannible) (1), lived to be 95. This is the Isaac I speak of above. Hello List: My particular Casner/Carsner line is found in VA, TN, KY, MO, IA, (IL), OR, WA, CA, British Columbia, TX, OK, NV, NM, UT, ID all pre 1900. While doing research on my particular Casner/Carsner line (because they roved extensively over the Midwest, the West, and the Pacific Northwest) I could never tell if the bit of information I located (from books, census records, county records, marriage/cemetery/death/birth records etc., etc.) would be for my line or another line with whom they had crossed roads. So as not to have to keep going back over ground already covered and while I have kept copies of the information I have located, it is often difficult to locate. So I started entering the information into a various FTM data bases (one for each disconnected family). I now have some 40+ different Casner families (and I know that is not all of them) entered into FTM db. The paperwork I have collected, I have numbered to correspond with the database into which the family appears. Occassionally a 'disconnected' family is matched. I will be glad to check the db's to see what I have if someone contacts me. I will have to have the name of the person and a date (the more information provided, the more likely I can match it with one of my 'disconnected' families). If a match is found, and if I am corresponding with a researcher/descendant of that line, I will put you in touch. From there, you are on your own. Perhaps we can help one another fill in some gaps in our lines along the way.
I'm not sure if, over the years, we have all been able to help Elizabeth much with her branch of CASNERS/CARSNERS but I know that she has helped hundred of hundreds with their Casner's lines. She has an incredible knowledge of many of the Casner branches and she shares with others through her great postings. Chatter is a good thing! Thanks Elizabeth
I have come across the following two Casner people from MO who served in WW I. CASNER, Clarence Roy of Carterville, Jasper Co., MO, born 8-20-1887; enducted at Webb City, MO on 7-23-1918 as a Pvt. I would like to connect these two people to a particular Casner line.
I have come across the marriage record of W. Carsner to Augusta Schmitz on 4-4-1895 in Cowlitz Co., WA. I have to think this W. Carsner is a descendant of Andrew Jackson Carsner or Jonas Carsner (brothers). William Albert Carsner (son of Andrew Jackson Carsner) who was born 2-22-1866 married a Rebecca Schmitz on 7-29-1882 in WA. Does anyone know who this W. Carsner is that married Augusta Schmitz. Did Rebecca die and William then marry perhaps her sister?
Will try to post more to this list as I come across tidbits of Casner/Carsner information. I use the term Casner/Carsner for the reason that my particular Casner line spells the name both ways (depending upon which branch of the tree from which they fall). I have posted many questions on 'unidentified' Casner people on the Casner GenForum site - maybe there is something there some of our cyber readers can answer; please give it a try also. I try to use this list and that site to reach as many Casner people as possible.
Nancy - thanks for taking over the list. My particular Casner/Carsner line follows: Jonas Casner married Nancy Wright in 1801 in VA. They had six children. By 1818 they had made their way to MO after going through TN & KY. Some of the children died in MO. All but one remained permanently in the MO/AR area. Henry Casner, son to Jonas, married Jincy Jane Fields in 1822 in Ray Co. MO. They floated between MO and IA; Henry died in 1847 in IA leaving Jincy to raise 12 sons and one daughter. Several of the sons were always in trouble with the law, the army, and the indians. They were ran out of Marion Co., IA (and a couple of other counties as well). Two sons, Jonas and John, marry in IA. In 1852 Jincy & all but one of the children take the trail to Oregon. John's wife dies on the way to OR. Jonas, the one who stayed behind, went to OR in 1862 and dies there in 1864. Trying to shorten the story, the daughter marries into my Fields line in OR; several of the sons marry and are very prolific. Many of the sons go to CA and strike it rich. There is a split in the family in the mid to late 1860s; in 1875 Jincy and several of the sons migrate to AZ where Jincy dies in 1884. Those that go to AZ spell the name Casner; those that ramain in the Pacific NW spell it Carsner. I have collected much information on this particular Casner line thanks to the assistance of several wonderful descendants/researchers. Still trying to fill in a few gaps. Would love to see more chatter on this list. I started researching the line in an effort to locate the parents/siblings of Jincy Jane Fields (the mother of all those children); I connect to the line in four different places: (1) the widow of Jonas Casner/Carsner marries the husband of my great grandmother; after she dies; her second husband is hte one who marries my great grandmother. (2) the only daughter of the Casner couple marries the great uncle of my mother. (3) The second wife of Warren Casner (son of Jonas who dies in 1864) marries the brother to my great grandmother after Warren dies. (4) Jincy Jane Fields (mother of all those children) is possibly out of my Fields line (my mother was a Fields). If someone would like to know more about this very prolific roaming family, please contact me direct. > > Would every one mind please mind responding with an introductory email that tells us a little about yourself and your casner connection.

Listed in the members of units was Merrill S Casner of the Eighth Army Ranger Company. The history of the Eighth Army Ranger Company (8213th Army Unit) is as follows: Activated, 24 August 1950. Parent Unit , none (TD Unit). Attached to 25th Infantry Division. Campaigns: U.N. defensive, U.N. offensive, CCF Interventions, first U.N. counteroffensive. Awards: Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Streamer. Inactivated 28 March 1951. I believe CCF is communist China forces and TD is a Table of Distributions (gives authority to have equipment and men in a unit).
I have a copy of the magazine in which the article originally appeared (Old West, Summer, 1969). At first, I thought this George Casner was of my line. However, after piecing the information together that was given in the magazine article, I have concluded he is not of my line. He probably is of the Casner line that was in TX in the 1800, then the majority of them migrated to CA - there were many, many of those from TX that eventually settled in CA. Somehow the George Casner that hid his gold in the pine trees has gotten mixed up with Moses Casner that hid his gold in dutch ovens around the ranch he owned. Most of the land, canyons, trails, etc. were named after Moses and Riley Casner who arrived in Yavapai County, AZ in 1875 (after leaving the OR/WA area) along with their brothers John, William and Daniel - the son of John (John Lewis) was also with them. Apparently, the George Casner (that hid his gold in the pine trees) arrived there a short time after my bunch of Casner arrived there - really confusing > > The only thing George Casner wanted when he came to this land from California in 1876, fleeing drought, was a patch of cool timber and some good grass for his sheep. Nancy: These Casner people are of my line. It is Jeanette 'Nettie' Devernois Casner (wife of John Lewis Casner) and three of her six children. Two of her children died before 1928. Her husband and the other child (probably a son) were probably out mining somewhere. The husband, John Lewis Casner, was the son of George Washington Casner. George is the son of John Lewis/Louis/Luke/Lou Casner who is off down in TX. Just one of the many John Casners in my line.
