I have been trying to find info on Francis Marion Casner for a year. No one has pictures of him so far. Susan Ferris has a web site on the Casner, Littlepage, Puttmum, ect. with some family pictures. She knows Em. I have talked to Em in the past. How do know about his early work and where abouts ? Thank you for this information. I had found the Calvin Lester Census in Texas and put two and two together. I'm not a blood Casner but my sons are. I am a San Diego native and had been to Julian, Warner Ranch, and spent summers camping thru-out the San Jacinto and Palomar mountains so this history is very exciting to me to. I looked up Cahuilla on google maps and have driven thru there in the past. I found a 1902 news paper article thru this website about daughter Frances Marion Casner-Kirkpatrick's wedding in Riverside CA. It mentioned her brother Ed attending and her father leaving a stack of gold coins as a gift in the center of the gifts table. I didn't save the article thinking I would go back to it and even though I have searched for the article endlessly I can not find it again. I will be in Riverside June 6 and try to take a picture of F M Casner's grave. Thought Mary Ann had died prior 1880. Did F M remarry. ? Didn't find another Casner listed on the Greenwood Cemetery website. ~ Jane My e-mail is [email protected] A picture of the new generation Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Leif, My two sons great, great, great, grandfather is Francis. Francis had a daughter he named after himself but spelled Frances and a son Ezra. That was a puzzling because Esra's name changed to Edward Rutherford Casner. Frances his sister was a teacher in Riverside. I played all day yesterday at this trying to poke out new info. for Francis. 1842 Knew about post office and Evergreen Cemetery but not much more. My husband is just telling me maybe the Cahuilla post office was the dance place we went to in the 90's near Warner Springs off 79 south east of Temecula. We live in Temecula. There's a Chauilla Rd. and the place was once a post office. Thanks for the new information. Edward R. became a big shot in Fresno. Four drugstores at one time. Many adds and articles about him and his family over the years in the Fresno Bee. Made a lot of money selling snake oil. False claims in a hundreds of adds and very funny stuff. Do you know how Francis M. Died My mother in law (Helen Casner) said E. R. Casner Sr. her father-in-law was drunk in bed and lite himself on fire with from a cigarette. And that had happened before. Maybe his father Francis. She said in a cabin ? But since Francis died at 70 something that didn't happen to him. Check out the adds in my media. E.R. Casner had a side business. A pack horse train to Yosemite. I remember Mother-in-law mentioning this in the 80's and found that I heard right this last year. Any pictures ? Pryor Ancestry Chris (my son) lacked family history. Now they have oodles. Would love more info if you have it ~ Jane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Thomas Jefferson Casner was my great-grandfather. My grandfather was Asa C. Casner, my father Thomas Asa Casner. I'm sorry but I had never heard of Francis M. Casner until your message, so I can't help you there. Also, unfortunately, my side of the Casner family was never very close. I knew my father's sister, Clara, and his two half-brothers, Ralph and Raymond, and, of course, my grandmother Margaret. My dad used to tell me stories of his experiences with his grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Casner. One of his stories relates how he accompanied T.J. Casner down the main street of some town, the name of which I don't know. But T.J. wore six-guns on both hips. Dad never explained to me why his grandfather felt the need for such firepower, but the story was intriguing all the same. I do remember Dad telling me how T.J. moved to Selma, CA., from Southern California to be close to family, where he raised watermelons, among other crops. Apparently he would load up a horse drawn wagon with watermelons and bring it to downtown Selma where he would park it out front of Asa C. Casner's (my grandfather) meat market. When T.J. left Selma for Southern California I don't know. Good luck in your quest for information, Doug Casner p.s.: How can I get in touch with Em? Author: lcwlandberg1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.casner/1.10.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello. My name is Leif Casner William Landberg. I'm related to Thomas Jefferson Casner, who was my great-great-grandfather. I'm also a cousin of Em (Casner) Wendel, who is a great source of information about the Casner line descending from Jacob Casner-Isaac Casner-Martin Casner and descendants (including Martin Vanburin Casner, Francis Marion Casner, Thomas Jefferson Casner and other siblings). My interest in Francis Marion Casner stems from my research on the 1868 Casner-Putman-Littlepage party's trip west from Blanco County, Texas, to San Diego County. I've been trying to do a wider reconstruction of their trip west by providing a broader historical context for Thomas J. Casner's account of his wagon train experiences. I know that Thomas J. Casner and Francis M. Casner moved up to Ventura County in 1872, but that later Francis M. Casner moved back to Ballena in San Diego County in the late 1880s. At that time, or slightly later, he became involved in mining operations in the San Jacinto Mountains hauling ore and making road improvements for an asbestos mine. He also was Postmaster at a "Cahuilla" post office until the area became part of the new county of Riverside. At sometime in the late 1880s or early 1890s he moved to Riverside. After that I don't have much information on him except that he died in Santa Paula, California but was buried in Riverside, where his wife died and was buried several years earlier. I know virtually nothing about his descendants, and I would like to know about them as well as what else you might know about Francis Casner's life. I am not at all clear about how Francis M. Casner came to California, but piecing together genealogical information posted by Em Wendel I believe that Francis married in Texas a widow (or divorcee?) about 1865. His step-daughter was Texana Lester, who later married Thomas Jefferson Casner in Julian, California in 1870. That is to say, that Francis Casner's wife, was Thomas J. Casner's sister-in-law and mother-in-law! Reading between the lines, I've think that Francis Casner came to California via that transcontinental railway shortly after its completion in 1869, about one year after the Casner-Putman-Littlepage party westered to California by wagon train in 1868. I would like to hear from you, and by all means get in touch with Em. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
