Roger: Email me direct - I can supply you with the information you are needing (and then some). I have a meeting tonight and will be home aboutr 8:30 or 9:00 Oklahoma time. Hope to have a message back from you when I get home. This particular Casner family is a very extensive family, widely traveled, most of the brothers struck it rich in the mines in CA, some were always in trouble with the law - all in all, a very interesting (and often sad time) family. You may already have the information, but thought I would pass it along just in case. While looking at FTM Disc #34, I see where Catherine Casner was married to Isaac H. Cramblitt on 12-27-1840. Catherine Casner is shown to have been born 5-9-1824 and died 9-8-1866 (the locations are not given). This particular family tree does not give any information on her parents. This family three shows she had nine children and all have birthdates. Three of the children die relatively young, three others have the death dates estimated, only one of her children has children listed. If you might want additional information from this tree, contact me direct and reference Disc #34. I am a Casner researcher/descendant, but this Cathereine is not of my particular line. To my knowledge none of mine made their way to OH. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2002 6:07 PM Subject: Casner > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xBI.2ACIB/89 > > Message Board Post: > > I am looking for Catherine Casner who married Isaac H. My guess is there's an error in my notes and that William's son was named for Williams' brother-in-law.

Casner born 13 Feb 1847? (confusion about year because he was either uncertain about when he was born or lied to get into the army) in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of Joseph Casner and Rachel Vanderveer -- who moved to Chester, MA apparently around 1860 (and some evidence suggests after a stop in Granby, Connecticut). William m. (1) Mary Stebbins who d. 1869 in Chester and m. (2) Ellen M. Russell in either Thurman or Warrinsburg, New York. Children by first marriage, Fred; Children by second marriage: Samuel, Edward, Joseph, Frank. William served in the Civil War. In his enlistment papers he's listed as 5'7-1/2" tall, blue eyes, light hair. He served initial in the 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery, then in Company E, 17th Regt of the Massachusetts Infantry. I've got lots more info on the family -- though I've been continuously frustrated in trying to work back from Joseph and Rachel [I do have a lot of information about them, however] Note that I'm not sure that the Fred Casner in New Haven is William's son -- he was raised by his grandmother, Arlina Stebbins, after his mother died and then by a guardian -- he may have adopted the surname Stebbins. One of many confusing details that need clearing up.

Hello List: In October, 2001 I posted the messge below to this list and one or two other lists. This evening a little after seven (CST), I received a response to it from a person by the name of Millie, Nellie, or Mollie and it had an attachment. Anyway, my antivirus program did its thing and zapped it out before I could get the person's name and email. If that person is on this list, I would like to hear back from you after you have ran your anti-virus program. Liz Freeman In OK! I have been researching a CASNER family that left Haskell County, TX sometime after 6-24-1902 and presumably made their way to NM. I am searching for the death date/place of two people - a father and son. There is the father (John L. Casner) who was born 1822 in MO and the son (John Lewis Casner) born 1-4-1851in IA. John Lewis Casner is also known as Louis/Luke/Lew/Lou Casner. On 6-24-1902 they sold the last of their rangeland in Haskell County. They are not to be found anywhere after that date. The family of the son appears between 1908-1910 in NM. Both were tried for murder, convicted, appealed and won their appeals for a shooting that occurred in 1899 in Haskell County. One was tried in Fisher County, the other in Stonewall County. I have newspaper accounts and trial records. Family tradition says the son, John Lewis Casner died in 1-1903 of a heart attack on the banks of a river while out hunting quail to feed his very large family (presumably in NM, but could have been in TX). There are no accounts of where/when the father died. My best calculation is that one or both died while migrating to NM. I have searched the Texas Death Index microfilm; I wrote to Austin regarding the deaths; I have searched cemetery records on the net of every county remotely close to the trail they might have taken while migrating to NM (knowing that all cemetery records are not on the net). During October I made a road trip from Haskell County to Lubbock and personally searched the death index of all counties between Haskell, TX & Clovis NM all to no avail. It is as if they just rode off into the sunset never to be heard from again. I was just wondering if anyone out there may have come across either of the above individuals in cemetery records, funeral home records, newspaper accounts, mysterious deaths, run-ins with the law, etc., etc., etc. Any thoughts from any and everyone concering the above appreciated.
