My GGGrandfather. Thomas Jonas South, lead a wagon train from New Albany, Indiana to the Sacramento Valley in 1850. He then went to work as Manager of the Teams & cattle for the "Monroe Ranch" in the area of the Shasta Mt. Have you ever heard of the Monroe Ranch? Looking for their exact location at the time (1850) and any information about them. They did supply teams for the mines. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The "Cumulative Index" of "The Siskiyou Pioneer and Yearbook" 1946-1971 contains only one entry starting with "Monroe." In vol 4 no 1 on Page 16-17 there is an article "Monroe and Ida Jones and Family" by Mable Francis Steele. That issue was published in 1968. My collection ends with Vol 3 No 2 so I can not comment on the content, but the Siskiyou Historical Society in Yreka should have a copy.
