    3. There may be others with better knowledge, but I'd say there were zero organized cemeteries near Mt. Shasta in 1850. If TJ worked SOUTH of Sacramento, as you state, he was moving AWAY from Mt. Shasta. Mt. McLaughlin was misidentified as Mt. Shasta on some early maps, but that is even farther from Sacramento to the north, and in Oregon. There is/was a Monroe Ranch in Markleeville which is the correct direction from Sacramento. I'd start checking records for that area. Good luck. My GGGrandfather, Thomas Jonas South 1814-1850, was Captain of a wagon train that came from New Albany, Indiana to Sacramento in the summer of 1850. After they arrived and disbanded, T.J. South went to work as Manager of the teams & cattle on the Monroe Ranch and in November of 1850, died. He supposedly was buried at the foot of the Shasta Mts. I was hoping there would be a descendant of the Monroes that might see my message and reply. I know there are two cemeteries shown at the base of Mt. Shasta, but not certain how old they are.
