Well it certainly looks like you have done your homework! & THANKS for letting me take a peek <g>. I had not followed up on Irma and when I saw this thread, I had to ask. I think I mentioned that my interest is through Martha Conley. Martha was the d/o Christopher Columbus Conley b)1835 d)1905 and Mary A Skeen b)1842 d)1864. NOTE that Martha died 1864. This Mary A. Skeen was the d/o Joseph Skeen and Elizabeth Yose who were my gg.grandparents. Mary was the sis/o my Elizabeth Skeen Murray, the wife of Caswell Murray. Mary Skeen with her mother and father and three sisters had come from Arkansas. A brother Jake stayed in Arkansas. Her father Joseph died on"Top" Scotts Mountain, Trinity County, Enroute Oregon Trail. Elizabeth, the mother of this clan, settled in Siskyou CO CA with her family. Mary A. married Chris on September 29, 1859 Yreka, Siskiyou County, CA/Bk 1 Pg53 Reg. of Marriages, and moved to a rented house on the FT. Jones road across from her sister Elizabeth who was married to "Cas" Murray (my direct line). Mary and Christopher had 4 girls. When the oldest, Clara, was 6 yrs (in 1866) and the youngest Martha, was 3 months, their mother (age 24) and the two other girls born in the intervening years died in either a scarlet or typhoid fever epidemic. They are buried in the old city cemetery on B! utcher Hill, and their markers are now lost. Clara went to live with her grandmother Elizabeth Skeen who lived on Greenhorn Creek across the creek from the "China Camp", and Martha went to live with the Knights. (Info found Siskiyou Pioneer, Folklore, Fact and Fiction, Bk1984 VOL5, #7) Yreka Journal dated Friday, August 16, 1864: Died on the 23rd, near Forest House, Mary A. wife of C.C. Conley. Age 22 years of age. Widower Chris Conley later married Mary Philips who had three children, according to the August 18, 1870 Census by A.E Paine State of CA, Siskiyou County Post Office Yreka and Township Yreka. Charles 11, Olive 9 & Arthur 5. This Mary & Chris had a son 1yr of age also listed in 1870 census. If you would like more information on the Skeen family, I would be happy to share what I know.
