The principal industry is provided for by the works of the Plumas Mining and Water Company, which are located here. This pass lying at an altitude of 4,875 feet, is the lowest of all the passes through the Sierra Nevadas. It is fifty- four miles southeast from Quincy, and twenty-eight miles from Reno. It is one of the oldest settlements and is in the midst of a grazing valley.
