    3. I am not aware of a Masonic Cemetery in Downieville.  My family is buried there and I believe the name of the Cemetery is either Downieville Pioneer Cemetery or Downieville Cemetery.  If your relative died before I believe 1906 or 1909, you can contact the Museum in Downieville.   I don't know if there is still a list of the cemeteries online.  There used to be on USGenweb-California-Sierra Co.  I found William Ryan from my Rich family in another cemetary on that list.  Pat Morano ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, February 22, 2009 3:01:48 AM Subject: CASIERRA Digest, Vol 4, Issue 3 Today's Topics:   1. 3. Hi Pat, My great uncle passed away in 1933. I tried Google without success. I even checked out Sierra Genweb site and also tried to see if the Masonic Lodge mentioned in the paper had a website where I could contact them. The Mountain Shade Lodge still exists and they do have a website but no way to contact anyone. Masonic Cemetery could be part of a larger cemetery. When I put my great uncle's info up on Find A Grave, I want to have the correct cemetery listed. I am not from California. For all I know, the cemetery is in Yuba but, why he would be buried there instead of Downieville, is beyond me. He had lived in Downieville for about 20 years. He and a friend operated the Comet Mine for a number of years. According to his long story on his death from the newspaper, he was taken to Sierra City where the doctor pronounced him dead. He was driving from Downieville to the Gold Lake district. He had a heart attack while driving on Gold Lake road about a quarter mile from the junction of Yuba Pass Highway. D. D. Dearwater was the undertaker in charge in Sierra City. He was taken there, pending instructions from relatives and prepared for burial. My great uncle was supposedly very well known in Downieville at this time. His death was on front page of the Mountain Messenger on August 19, 1933.
