I have done a bit of digging and found a gold miner called Richard Quinn living in Poker Flat, Sierra County. He is on the 1880 census, the voter registers for 1869 & 1879 and the Sierra County, CA 1885 Directory (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~shastaca/1885sierra.html). I cannot be sure but it seems possible that he is the right person. His daughter was married in Waterford Ireland and it is possible that the father left the family to find fortune in the Gold Rush/after the Irish Famine. Any help or direction would be appreciated.
