Gibson. Joseph Gibson owned and operated a saloon/hotel/dancing hall/livery first at Scales Diggings (Sears Township), then later around 1893 he opened a new saloon in Port Wine which he operated until the age of 77, when he retired to Ophir around 1910. Joseph Gibson was ever faithful to the Rutishausers because he worked in partnership with John Rutishauser, August Rutishauser's brother, and they ran the saloon in Scales Diggings, Sierra County, together for many years. They were friends as well as business partners. John Rutishauser was a brew master, making the most excellent lager beer which Joseph served in his saloon in Scales. There were several Gibsons, brothers of Joseph Gibson, in the area during the same time period and I would be interested in communicating with any Gibson descendant from the Yuba/Sierra/Butte counties from 1850 to the early 1900's.
