I am looking for my grandmothers side of the family. The last name they were using on the 1880 Census for Oregon City in Butte County in CA was FRANK. On the 1st 10 or so pages of this census it says City Of Cherokee. My family is Portuguese so there is a possibility they are using the last name spelled FRANCK, FRANCISCO, FRANCISCA, FRANCA, MARTIN OR HENRIQUES. Or the last name spelling starting with FRA. HENRIQUES is the maiden name of the mother Mary. I was told that Portuguese people usually didn't use there birth names when they came to the U.S., that is why I have given a few differant spellings. The mother & fathers names are Martin & Mary both born in Portugal or The Azores. Here are the childrens names. Frank, Mary Born CA (Most Likely instead of MA) 1875 Frank, Frank (Yes they named one of there children Frank Frank) Born 1877 Manuel Born 1879 or 1880 There are possibly 4 other children that were born after the 1880 census. Josephine, Alice Rena & May/Mae and Martin. My grandmother Alice Rena Frank (Franck) married my grandfather Gus Foster Rowe approx. 1908. I have been looking for my grandmothers side of the family for 14 months now with no luck. I am grasping at straws and loosing hope of ever finding them and would appreciate any help.
