    1. Re: [CASIERRA] Capitol Hotel
    2. I don't remember what year the City Directory for Sierra Co. is for on Sierra Co., on USGenweb. You can also find the pages on Ancestry.com or in the History of Plumas...Etc. Counties which were published around that time. I don't remember a hotel on Main Street when I went to Downieville in 2002. There were two that I remember at that time, both on Commerical Street...one just before the bridge which I believe the person was talking about and from my understanding it was originally the newspaper office. My family lived at 1 Commercial Street at one time according to the census. Across the bridge on Commerical Street which becomes Highway 49 is another motel which has rooms. You can do a search on the internet for Downieville. I believe there is another history which I saw part of and got pictures and some pages while searching in Sierra City from a lady who worked at their library. Somewhere I have lost those pages in moving but it gave more names and businesses for! several years because I found the Livery Stable and some other things that my families were connected with. Hope this will give you some idea. There are several places on the Main Street that could have been hotels at one time or another. It mentioned my Bavouzet relatives and some of the Ramm family. I have received some information from the state of California archives (obits, newspaper copy, etc) plus in summer of 2005 I went to Camptonville and Marysville and dig some research as well. > If you are not familiar with the story from Erma, let me know and I will send it to you. It is 11 pages typed in Microsoft Word format...or I can put it in almost any other format you need. If you are familiar with the document, and are aware of other information, please send it on to me. I would love to know more about the "Star of the Sea" church in San Francisco where Mon. Charles Ramm officiated. I have been near it but didn't get to see it. I would like to visit the cemetery there as some cousins are buried in it. If you wish you can email me directly. If you click on my name in the message board, it will show you my email address. > If you happen to know any of the surviving Ramm family members I would love to contact them. > Thanks for writing, > Rex > > > > ------------------------------ > > Message: 2 > Date: Thu, 07 Dec 2006 03:39:33 -0000 > From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [CASIERRA] Capitol Hotel in Downieville > To: <[email protected]> > Message-ID: <[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.california.counties.sierra/338.2/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I was in Downieville during summer of 2005. Wonderful little town. I saw two hotels, there may be one other. They are all small. On main street there is one just east of the Hwy 49 (Commerce St) bridge. Highway 49 enters town on the west side as "Main" street. But when the highway turns south and crosses the river, the highway becomes "Commerce" street. Main street continues east as it heads along side of the river. > The hotel on Main street was larger and has a restarant / bar on the first floor. The hotel on the south side of the river bridge is less developed. It might not have been a hotel in 1885. I am not a historian of this area, but thought that this might help you sort out your answer. > > > > > > ------------------------------ > > Message: 3 > Date: Thu, 07 Dec 2006 05:47:15 -0000 > From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [CASIERRA] Capitol Hotel in Downieville > To: <[email protected]> > Message-ID: <[email protected]> > Content-Type: text/plain; > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.california.counties.sierra/338.2.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Thanks > > Emmitt > > > > > > ------------------------------ > > To contact the CASIERRA list administrator, send an email to > [email protected] > > To post a message to the CASIERRA mailing list, send an email to [email protected] > > __________________________________________________________ > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] > with the word "unsubscribe" without the quotes in the subject and the body of the > email with no additional text. > > > End of CASIERRA Digest, Vol 1, Issue 16 > *************************************** >
