Probably you got the marriage of Mary Emma Newman to Allan Nicholson from the bio in the history of Sierra co.; have you confirmed it any other way? When I get time, I'm thinking of running up to Downieville to see if it is recorded in Sierra co. (I live in the next county down, so it's not too long a trek.) I have her married in 1877 to Allan Nicholson. She was born 15 Mar 1861 and died 17 June 1947. I have her marrying Harry Mondor before 1906. On the 1900 Census for Sierra, Sierra, Calif. I'm interested in Mary Emma Newman, daughter of David and Roxy. She seems to have married twice; the second husband was Harry V. Mondor; the first is the one that interests me, said to be Allan Nicholson, married in 1877. I do not find them in the 1880 census, though I find James Nicholson, living and working at a saw mill; census says he is married, but obviously wife not with him at work. Are these two Nicholsons the same? If not, do you know anything about Allan Nicholson? I'm following Mary Emma's daughter, Mary Ellen Nicholson(?) who married Albert E. Simpson. His name was John Dineen, he was born in Sydney, Australia in 1845 and migrated to the United States with his family prior to 1860. On December 11, 1864 he enlisted as a Corporal at Howland Flat, California and on December 20, 1864 was mustered into "I" Company, California 8th Infantry. In 1868 his family moved from the Sierra town of Poker Flat to San Francisco, California , but after the War John returned to the Sierras . In 1870, the last record I have relating to John Dineen, he was recorded in the California 1870 Census Records as living in Table Rock, California in ; being 22 years of age, working as a miner and living with a Mr. William Heckles. The 1900 census, enumerated June 14 & 15, indicates that George Henderson and Elizabeth (Sharkey) Jones have been married to each other for nine years. The 1910 census, enumerated May 7, indicates that George Henderson and Elizabeth (Sharkey) Jones have been married to each other for 18 years. The combination of these two census, if the years married was given accurately to the census taker, would suggest that George and Elizabeth were married sometime between May 8, 1891 and June 14, 1891. If you are searching marriages in Sierra Co., I would look for it to fall within those two dates. Cindy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
