    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: r_a_green Surnames: Classification: immigration Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.california.counties.sierra/622/mb.ashx Message Board Post: 19th CENTURY ATLAS, MAPS, HISTORICAL GUIDES & GAZETTEERS (includes publications from IA, IN, MN, OH and WI) http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/hgg.html Historians, genealogists and researchers of the 19th century Midwestern United States will find the vast amount of historical research material in these books and atlases on CD a very valuable resource. Each of these extensive gazeteer and immigrant guides contain the description of places and place names, many of which are no longer found on contemporary maps, including: cities, towns, villages, settlements, schools, post offices, transportation routes and schedules, and much more. Historical Guides and Gazetteer CD's may also include maps of the period providing cartographic reference to 19th century places identified and discussed in the literature. Also included are hundreds of advertisements by contributing businesses providing historical insight into the goods, services and the merchants that made them available during the 19th century. Anyone interested in the history of these regions will find this material useful. ------------------------------------------------------------ HISTORIC ATLAS SERIES (includes 19th century atlases of IA, IL, IN, KY, KS, MI, MN, NE, OH, PA, VA and WI) http://www.historic-atlas-series.com/has.html The Historic Atlas Series CD's are digital reproductions of 19th century maps and historical atlas data in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). The Adobe Reader software is required to view, manipulate and print PDF data is included on each CD. States with maps and atlases currently available are shown in the graphic to the right. 19th century geographic and statistical data are useful to historians, genealogists and researchers with an interest in the landscape and cultural setting of this period. Early county maps may contain many places that no longer exist or that have been obscured over time. Atlases with statistical data provide vivid detail of 19th century pioneer lifestyles. Details on early maps are often difficult to read and these are no exception; however, by virtue of the Adobe PDF formatting, these documents may be inspected and printed at high levels of magnification without additional digital distortion; something that simply cannot be accomplished with paper reproductions and photocopies. There is a vast amount of information that can be gleaned from these sources and the diligent researcher will find these cartographic resources useful in their studies. ------------------------------------------------------------ Good luck with your research! Author: kellisgirl Surnames: Boyle/Myers Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.california.counties.sierra/618.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, SherrieBarber! Lemee see if I can do this in chronological order: Josephine Boyle was my greatgrandmother. She married George Myers (I've also seen it spelled Meyers)and begat my grandmother, Cecelia Agnes Myers, my great uncle George Benjamin and my great aunt Adele. Josephine died when my grandmother was about 10 (1918?). I have no idea where she was interred. George Myers remarried, a school teacher named Florence, and they had a son. I don't remember his name. I believe Great-grandfather lived the remainder of his life in Fernley, NV. I lived in his house when I was a child. Great-grandfather died around 1960 and is buried in Fallon, NV. Florence preceded him and is also buried in Fallon. My grandmother married a Danishman in 1928 named Jen Hans Jensen; they had 6 children: Johanna (died at age 10), James (passed at 77 last December), Peter (stillborn), Mary Jo, Bertha (my mother, who died in 1989), and George (who died in 2003). Cecelia Agnes Jensen died in 1978, and is also buried in Fallon. George Myers II was married to a lady named Trudy. They had a son, Frank, and lived in Lovelock NV for as long as I could remember. George owned and operated the gas company in Lovelock. Trudy passed; George remarried a lady name Emily, I think, in the early '70's. I'm fairly certain they are both gone by now. But I believe Frank is still around. Cecelia Boyle married Frank Myers. The only child of this marriage that I know for sure was a daughter I knew as Aunt Jo. She and my grandmother could have passed for sisters, they looked so much alike. She married a man named Ed Paulsen and they had two sons, Sonny and Michael. Both Aunt Jo and Uncle Ed have passed. I don't know when. Family rumors have the Myers Brothers as jacks-of-all-trades: miners, loggers, and muleskinners. They owned or worked property all over the Sierras. My grandmother was born in Loyalton. My uncle Jim once took me on a road trip to Graegle, where we apparently also had some family dealings. In doing a search of Sierra Nevada history, I came upon a couple of names in the Shasta County registry. Whether they are related, I couldn't say, but it seems possible. There is a recorded marriage between a George Boyle and a Carrie L. Meyers. George Boyle Meyers died in 1907 and is also buried in Sierraville. I know Kate Boyle had a pretty substantial spread in Sattley. I'd like to know a little more about her. There is a James Boyle (1876) interred in the same Sierraville cemetery. There is also a Turner connection: While I was growing up, my grandmother's cousin, Jim Turner, was a frequent visitor. I don't remember much in detail about him. He'd had a growth (cancer) removed from his bottom lip and had a distinctive look about him as a result. There are a couple of references in the Sierra County historical registry to an older James Turner who I believe was a miner. Well, that's all I got. How about you? (p.s. if we're related or if you can fill in some holes, this is terribly exciting for me!) My name is Lisa. I have 3 children of my own and 3 grandchildren. I'd love to add some branches to their tree. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. I realize this is a long shot but I have some Perrys connected to my Davis family and while they are not direct connections to me I am wondering if they might also be connected some way. The daughter of Mathilda who married George W. Davis-Alice was married to a H. R. Perry. They were living in Goodyear Bar in 1880. And as far as I can find so far had two children. I also have a sister of Richard Rich's who married Judge A. J. Howe after his first wife died. I do not know Alice's last name as she was born before Mathilda married George Davis. It may have been Phelps as her brother listed in the same household was Charles Phelps-born 1862-Illinois. Have you checked the California Death Index and FindaGrave.com? If any of this sounds familiar to your family, I will like for you to contact me personally. In the meantime, since this is also one of my mysteries, I will try to see if I can find anything. Abraham Perry died sometime between 1903 and 1906; John Holmes seems to have become the manager of Our House at that time, but the siblings (especially Abraham Perry Jr.) then tried to sell it, and we don't have papers for it after that time. John Holmes continued to work the mining claims. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [CASIERRA] Info on John H. RIXEY d. 1964
    2. Sue J
    3. Hi List, I am looking for obituary on a husband and wife, or, at least where they are buried. John. H. RIXEY b. 4 May 1875 in MO and died 29 Dec. 1964 in Downieville. Gladys (nee Tuttle) RIXEY b. 15 July 1891 Utah and died 8 June 1953 in Downieville. I have checked the Utah burials for SLC and I can only find mention of her parents. I don't know if John was Mormon but Gladys was. If John wasn't, I don't know if Gladys changed to his church when they got married. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I could not find anything in the newspaper website I have for all 50 states. I guess they don't have that time period available yet. If I find where they are buried, I might be able to find where my gr. uncle and his wife are buried. His wife was sister to Gladys. They also died in Downieville. Sue [email protected]
