Is it on Perry Creek? I think I've seen the house, the one time I visited Sierraville in about 2004 or 2005. But I wasn't bold enough to just walk up and knock on the door. And that also gives me a better timeline. 1858, huh? I had thought that Charles and Moses both moved to California some time between 1860 and 1870. They're both in Sierraville in the census records for 1870, but Moses was in Wyoming in the 1870 census. Now that you gave the 1858 date, I checked and clearly Charles was there by 1860. So it seems like Charles went there first and set up his homestead and then Moses joined him later. I'd love to hear about any research you've done on the house or on Charles and Margaret (if you're still on ancestry.com - I know I tend to sign up for a few months or a year and then let my account lapse). The bachels were part of the family that the Erwins married into and are at that cemetary as well. Since William and Joseph were Brothers that would make William and Mary my Great Aunt and Uncle. The Downeville museum has the same history books that we have the first edition of regarding Sierra County. I have the page marked with William and his family in a 1911 Cadillac taken in 1912 in Scales showing them as having what is believed to be the first vehicle in Northern Sierra County. We never knew what happened to that side of the family and I keep the page marked to do a little digging when I have time. I had a William L. Erwin who was my Great Uncle. Joseph Erwin was his brother and my Great Grandfather. He and his wife are laid to rest in the Goodyears Bar Cemetery near Downieville. It is funny that I ran into this post. I am sitting here looking at a photo from the Sierra County History Books that my Grandfather Eugene Erwin purchased a first edition of. We had to go and pick up the last edition after he passed. The photo is of William L. Erwin, Mary Alexander Erwin and the children, Leland and Wilma at Scales in 1912. They had a 1911 Cadillac that is believed to be the first car in Northern Sierra County. My father still in Plumas County and we found some cousins in the Bay area, Steve Erwin. We never knew where William went with his family and we have been trying to figure that out.
