    3. Janie, What does "Cunningham 8" say ?? If you can see the 1957 Wagon Wheel, the first few stories about Shasta City (Reading Springs) in 1850, it was the ONLY town in northern California, and major supply route for supplies to the north and on the only road. A celebration of July 4th was enjoyed by 50 men, as nearly no women were present yet. By 1856, 601 voters participated in town election. Thus your 1850 list may be mostly Shasta City, name changed from Reading Springs in June 1850. Shortly after Oct 1849, Dr Benjamin Shurtleff arrived, and was named Alcalde, serving until elections Sept 1850 named county officials. There should be some ALLERTONs there soon, maybe 1860? Shurtleff relatives, Adam Parker married Francis Allerton. --JD
