A celebration of July 4th was enjoyed by 50 men, as nearly no women were present yet. By 1856, 601 voters participated in town election. Thus your 1850 list may be mostly Shasta City, name changed from Reading Springs in June 1850. Shortly after Oct 1849, Dr Benjamin Shurtleff arrived, and was named Alcalde, serving until elections Sept 1850 named county officials. There should be some ALLERTONs there soon, maybe 1860?
