Hello, I'm looking for any info on the COLE, FIELDS, and HOSMER/OSMER families. Chester M. & Eliza A. (UNKNOWN) COLE were married abt. 1830, probably in Michigan. In the 1880 California census, Chester M. & Eliza A. COLE and family, and their son and daughter in law, Robert F. & Mary Jane (FIELDS) COLE and family, are all listed in Bridgeport, Mono Co. Children of Robert F. & Mary Jane (FIELDS) COLE were: 1. Chester Levi COLE, b. Mar. 1874, Washington Territory. 2. Theodore Augustus (Gus) COLE, b. May 1875, California. 3. Nora Ann COLE, b. 1878, California. 4. William Frank COLE, b. 8 July 1881, California. The 1880 census for Bridgeport, Mono Co. California lists "Lake Ontario" as Chester M. COLE's birthplace (very difficult to read). Chester's parents were probably from New York, but their birthplaces are listed only as "U. S.". By 1883, Chester M. COLE, b. 1810, had apparently died. His widow Eliza A. COLE, son Robert F. COLE and his family were back in Kalama, Washington Territory. In 1900, two of Chester & Eliza COLE's sons, George COLE and Edwin COLE, were listed in Redding, Shasta Co. California. Their fathers birthplace was listed as "AT SEA". I believe these two brothers were still in California at least until 1907. Eliza A. (UNKNOWN) was born abt. 1813 Canada, probably Ontario. Both of her parents were born in New York. I believe her maiden name was OSMER (or HOSMER). So far I haven't been able to prove my connection to this HOSMER/OSMER family. They probably left Ontario Co. (?) NY sometime before 1813, went via Ontario, Canada, through Port Huron MI, to St. Clair Co. MI, and by 1840 they were in St. Joseph Co. Michigan. In 1850 they were in Virgil, Kane Co. Illinois: Chester M. COLE, age 40 - born abt. 1810, Farmer. Eliza COLE, age 37 - born abt. 1813. Eight children listed: 1. Mariah COLE, age 18; b. abt. 1832 MI. 2. Orrin H. COLE, age 16; b. abt. 1834 MI. 3. George W. COLE, age 14; b. abt. 1836 MI. 4. Edwin COLE, age 11; b. abt. 1839 MI. 5. Robert COLE, age 10; b. abt. 1840 MI. 6. Albert (or Alfred) COLE; age 5; b. abt. 1845 IL. 7. James W. COLE, age 2; b. abt. 1848 IL. 8. Emma (or Erma) COLE, age 6 mos.; b. abt. Mar. 1850 IL. Wheaton OSMAR, 40, laborer, b. abt. 1810 New York, and Mary J. OSMAR, 12, b. abt. 1838 Michigan, are also listed in the COLE household in 1850. After 1850, aside from Robert COLE's 1872 marriage to Mary Jane FIELDS in Kalama, Washington Territory, I haven't found the COLE family again until Bridgeport, Mono Co. California, in 1880.
