    2. Shasta Courier Saturday April 24, 1852 A Miner, John Wilkins, was attacked and killed on Tuesday Night by indians. He was from New York. ------------ Shasta Courier Saturday April 24, 1852: Accidental Death - On Tuesday last, James V. A. Wight was killed when he accidentally shot himself. He was originally form Naperville, Illinois, then from Chicago. He was 22 yrs. old. ---------------- Shasta Courier Saturday April 2, 1853 Drowned - We are informed by Mr. Varry, that Mr. Nelson Sherman, one of the proprieters of Pendleton & Sherman's Ferry, on the Trinity River, was drowned last Tuesday. Messrs. P. & S. were getting ready to start their boat across the river, when one of the fastenings of the boat gave way; the water carrying the boat around, knocking its bottom, and sweeping off these gentlemen. Mr. Sherman floated dwon stream about a mile and sunk. Mr. Pendelton floated still further, but was caught up on some brush and thus got upon the bank. -------------- Shasta Courier Saturday April 9, 1853 On Wednesday Morning last, James Nolan, a Monte dealer and Alex Murdock Esq., a citizen of Whiskey Creek, per playing cards. Murdock accused Nolan of cheating and demanded his $40 back from Nolan. Nolan then shot Murdock. Nolan was hung. ---------------- Shasta Courier Saturday March 26, 1853 Just a note from the San Francisco Paper - the Steamer "Independence" is still missing. It has been missing since the 19th of February. ---------------- Shasta Courier Saturday May 7th, 1853 Married Wednesday the 4th of May in Yreka, Mr. Pembroke Murray to Miss Malvina Sone. Both are from Yreka. Died In this town, on Sunday, May 1, of consumptioon, Thornton Matthews, of Pike County, Missouri ------------------ Shasta Courier Saturday May 14, 1853 Body Recovered. We learn from Mr. Parker of Rhodes & Lusks Express that the body of Mr. Nelson Sherman, who was drowned in Trinity river on the 29th of last March was found during the past week. --------------------- Shasta Courier Saturday April 9th 1853 Died Drowned, in attempting to cross Trinity River, George W. Baber, Printer, formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., ages 28 yrs. Drowned, in the North Fork of Trinity River on the 6th inst., Eugene Wisner. He was supposed to be deranged. Janie
