From the information you have looks like he is the one that opened the general store and was friends with Abe Lincoln. The story is in one of the books I found at the library. He went by the name McNeil then. What what I found was that James' his first child's name was Mary E. McNamar, she died at birth. Now he married Susan Nettleton here in CT in 1860. Susan's mother's name was Eliza Hall Nettleton. If you follow the 'naming patern' I am thinking that maybe James' mothers name as Mary Bentley and she married a McNamar.
