    3. Hi Janie, You did a great job on the lookup. You did give me the information on both of the Theodore Dickinson's out of the 1890 Great Register. Would love the information on J. A. Thanks so much! I really appreciate the help. 1. [CASHASTA-L] Theodore DICKINSON of French Gulch
    2. Dale & Denise Mills
    3. Hi all! This is the DICKINSON family I have in French Gulch - or nearby. I also have them listed someplace called FLAT CREEK. This was from the 1890 Great Register that Janie was kind enough to look up for me. Theodore DICKINSON (ca. 1827- prob. bef. 1890) was b. NY and d. probably Shasta County, married ca. 1858, probably CA, Augusta BROWN (ca. 1837-between 1878-80). Augusta was b. NY and d. probably Shasta County. They had Hattie Marina DICKINSON (1859-1930) b. French Gulch, she married Horace Adelhert WILLIAMS, Emily A. DICKINSON (ca. 1863- ), Theodore DICKINSON (ca. 1866- ), Judson DICKINSON (ca. 1872- ), Frank DICKINSON (ca. 1878- ) and May DICKINSON who married a WESSELL. I don't have a whole lot on this line. Not sure where Theodore and Augusta are buried. There are 2 DICKINSONs buried in the Redding Cemetery that could be them. One died in 1897, the other in 1877. No first names for these listed on the page the cemetery sent me. Denise Fort Hood, TX

    1. [CASHASTA-L] William WILLIAMS of Redding and family
    2. Dale & Denise Mills
    3. Hi everyone! Thought I'd finally post something on the new Shasta County List. I'm researching the above surnames. Here is my WILLIAMS line: William Wallace (or Wallace William) WILLIAMS (1830-1909), son of Aaron WILLIAMS. William was b. NY and died in Redding, Shasta, CA. He married first Margaret MITCHELL (ca. 1837-bef. 1880). Margaret was b. in IN or IL and probably d. in Shasta County. They had Horace Adelhert WILLIAMS (1856-1935) and Clarence E. WILLIAMS (ca. 1868-aft. 1909). William married #2 Lilly, widow of BRACKETT (ca. 1841-aft. 1909). They married after 1870. Lilly was b. NY. They had Charles WILLIAMS (b. ca. 1978-aft. 1909) and Jennie WILLIAMS (b. aft. 1880-aft. 1909). She possibly married a TUBBS? Lilly's children by BRACKETT were Edwin BRACKETT, Harry BRACKETT and J. W. BRACKETT. William came to CA in ca. 1858. He conducted a general merchandise store in Redding. Horace Adelhert WILLIAMS (above), b. Story, IA and d. in Redding. He married Hattie Marina DICKINSON (1859-1930) in 1878 in Shasta County. Hattie was b. French Gulch, Shasta, CA and d. Redding. They had Mary Augusta WILLIAMS who married a CRUTHIS, Bertha WILLIAMS who married Chester MULLIN, Clarence A. WILLIAMS who married Fanny, and Harry Orvall (Orville) WILLIAMS who married Eva Gertrude PEPPER. Horace came to CA when he was 2 years old. He was a Wells Fargo Stagecoach driver and was held up by BLACK BART 3 times. He drove stage up the canyon, from Redding to Yreka, and at another period had a route over Scott's mountain. He also worked for the Southern Pacific railroad and then in the grocery store owned and operated by A. F. SOUZA, Jr. Would love to hear from anyone researching any of these lines. Will send the Dickinson information in another e-mail. Denise Fort Hood, TX

    3. Janie, I have John Syme/Julia Parkers marriage, kids and their data'; but its Julias PARKERs I don't know about, at all! I know her Father brought the family west in 1866, and as Julia was married in 1868 I assume they were all nearby French Gulch -- somewhere. I know Julia taught school at Shasta City, so Parkers could be anywhere? I know Julias sibling names, but her dad, JOHN PARKER had a brother William and his family may be there too. And Parker is too common a name, like Smith. Maybe 1870 cen in Shasta Co ? Names like PARKER, John John Jr Merren Maria and I hope a separate household (?) PARKER, William Jeane John William Jr Anything like that? ( are you confused yet?<G>) --JD

    3. Tim Purdy and William Whalley, Thanks, good idea Tim about PO's, never thought of that but would be true where I live too. I know where French Gulch is and was there years back, but have Syme's buried up there somewhere! And no idea if there was a F.G. cem or not? In the process of joining Hist Soc and Gen Soc, as I know a vol of family stuff was given to Redding Musuem some years ago, vague what may be in that, but have lots of questions that may be a bore to non-residents. Between there, Igo, Shasta City, and all over are records of any number of unknowns related, since 1856. Wheres the Washington Mine? Wheres the Milkmaid? Yahoo map is great, but no hist. detail<G> . Might someone have teacher lists at Shasta School 1850 - 1900? Somewhere up there (were) Parkers, Symes inlaws. John Souter, may even be related, was Symes partner, Milkmaid/Washington/who knows what mines, must be there somewhere. I have a verbal story from mom of visiting a mine mansion before it burned, no idea where she meant. Where cems covered by Whiskeytown lake? I had my picture taken by Symes Stamp mill frame in about '38, I have no idea where it was? Well. I have NO end of specifics<G> just a sample so you get my drift? I will find out about back issues of the "Wagon Wheel" or whatever it is, that may help some. --JD

He may be able to answer your question. Could you be more specific? I will pass it on to him. William Whalley Camas WA wwhalley@pacifier.com

    3. French Gulch is located 21 miles northwest of Redding. You may want to contact the Shasta County Historical Society, P.O. Box 990277, Redding, CA 96099, as they are a pretty helpful bunch. Or you may want to contact the Postmaster of French Gulch at 530-359-2100 or 14200 Main Street, French Gluch, CA 96033. I have found small town Postmasters, for the most part, to be very helpful contacts. 1. [CASHASTA-L] Introduction...
    2. Edward A. Black, Sr. & Ruth M. Black
    3. I thought I'd introduce myself since I recently decided to establish this list. My name is Edward A. Black, Sr. and I established this list for those who desire to contact others who have like desires in locating family members, taking part in discussions or doing other genealogical research in Shasta County, California. My interest in Shasta Co., CA comes because I found that my wife had kin that lived Montgomery Creek area NE of Redding. I also found that Lake Shasta is a beautiful and peaceful lake that I spent time at as a child years ago. I currently live in Lancaster, California and I have been married 27-1/2 years, having raised a son, who himself is married and has 2 sons of his own. He lives in McAllen, TX. I've had an interest in genealogy since I was a child [although I referred to it as finding my roots], but due to a job & raising our son, lacked the time until a couple of years ago. I have long found enjoyment in helping others, in my case doing what I can to help in family history. I have found that the lists I've taken part in have helped a lot in locating family members on either my own or that of my wife's family. Enjoy this new site and I do hope that it will assist you users with your genealogical work & discussions. It is intended to be a tool for that purpose. Take care & God Bless, Sincerily, Edward A.
