    3. What time period are you looking at. Many towns in Shasta County have had different names and some towns are under water from man made lakes being created. If you can give me a time period I will be glad to check our local library here in Shasta County and see what I can find for you. 2. I went to the old map of 1895, and it looks like Leighton was just below Redding, perhaps in the same area as Pala Cedro. Leighton was where John's Post Office was. Jean

    2. I sent for my Greatgrandfather's John CHRISTENSEN'S land records and just received them back today. Some months ago we discussed where Cow Creek was located, because he still has a living daughter and all she can remember is Cow Creek! John's witness' were H.J. KAH, P.W. Arnold, J.W. CONLAN, J.J. KELLY, all from Leighton. In these land records it had to be proven that John had lived on the premises. It was ag. land, At one point someone had mispelled his last name doing a sOn instead of sEn. So, just by a stroke of luck there is a hand written document from the S.F. Court, that says Certified copy of act of Naturalization. He had to prove that he was the one and only John Christensen, because of the misspelling. The Affidavit from the land office at Redding Cal. dated July 29, 1893, John CHRISTENSEN of Leighton, Shasta Co. Cal, applying to enter file for a Homestead. He was living on the land in 1866. He had a total of 150 acres. He was 40 yrs. old at the time. If is not under water, how would a person now find out where the location of this land be? Just to let everyone know, it took 60 days to get these records from the National Archives. Thank you Jean Hehn
