Would anyone have a 1954 Covered Wagon (SHS annual) ?? I need to know if the article on Agnes Parker Kingsbury is worth paying someone to copy ? The issue is no longer available, but I was able to buy 5 others from Shasta Book Store <G>. I only know of the article from one page of the index forwarded to me. --JD

Dear Joyce & List FYI on microfilm for the Weekly Shasta Courier. All issues are not microfilmed but I happened across the following Header info on the reels I just borrowed that may help us out in the future: "This file of the Weekly Shasta Courier has been photographed from original copies in the possession of: The Bancroft Library, University of California, Berkeley The Shasta County Historical Society, Shasta The M.H. De Young Museum, San Francisco." I have not inquired yet, but, the institutions above may have copies that did not make it on to microfilm. Always worth a try. I myself will be investigating this further as the copy I need is not on film. If anyone else has run across this problem, let me know & I will look for your "Lost Courier Issues" when I look for mine. Joyce: I happened to have, waiting at my local library, the rolls of the Shasta County Courier that you were needing a search in. For Merrimac Brown I scanned July 2, 1989, July 9th, 1898 & July 16th 1898. There is no weekly courier issue dated the 13th. I found no mention of Brown. FYI, I might have missed it, but, I don't think so. Maybe you can call ancestry to double check obit date. As for Cooper, I searched Jan 28th 1899 then, the next paper on the microfilm was dated 2/25/1899. I didn't bother looking as it was a lot later. I have been searching for my George Dingman, there was an inquest into his death. Wouldn't you know the issue I needed September 5th 1903, Volume #27 was skipped! Hope this info is helpful. Does someone have access to the microfilm of the newspaper, The Shasta Courier? I found an obituary listing in the Ancestry.com listing of Shasta County Deaths from that newspaper for a gg-aunt of mine that might give me some leads as to her mother. The listing gave this information...Merrimac Brown, 17, died Oak Run, 7/1/1898, obit 7/13/1898. I also need a lookup for Jacob Cooper, d. Parkville Jan. 28, 1899. The Lingenfelter files have him listed as a son of Cunningham Cooper, but I have found no record of him in any of the records of Cunningham's family. I am trying to prove or disprove this. Well, we're fine but a lot of other people weren't so lucky... many aren't being allowed in to their areas yet to even know if their houses were burned or not. The fire agencies are setting up for another good wind tonight. The fire burned for 17 miles from Jones Valley (near Shasta Lake) down to (nearly) the Sacramento River in a 3-mile wide swath. As you may or may not know, last month Shasta County had a fire in Happy Valley that destroyed 37 homes, and the Red Cross is still struggling to regain its footing. With 100+ homes destroyed in yesterday's fire (which is still burning), donations of cash would be much appreciated. The American Red Cross can be reached at 1-800-HELP-NOW, and designations to the "Shasta County Fire Relief" will go directly to the Shasta County Chapter. http://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/SHU_8604/main/index.htm is the URL for update information. If you go to the "Incident Maps" and then Map #3, we are right at the "M" on Millville Plains Road --just south east of the fire. It will be a sleepless night tonight. If the map still says 5000 acres --know it is at 15,000 acres now. 70 houses have been lost, and one firefighter lost their life.
