    2. mildred
    3. Janie, The books that you have put on line are great. Do you have the list of books for sale. If yes, where can they get purchased. This would be great. I have found people living in the area. Can you give the address of who has the books. I am in the area a few times of the year. Thanks for any help that you can give. 3. Posted on: Shasta County Queries Board URL: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ca/Shasta?read=19 Surname: Williams, Morton, Brown, Johnson ------------------------- I'm doing research on Robert Williams b abt 1867 in either Butte or Lake county, d 1942, French Gulch, Shasta County. He married Maude (Johnson) Morton of Butte County in abt 1908 who was a former Butte County neighbor. They had two daughters, one of whom is Roberta b 1910 and now living in Tehema County. The other daughter was born in 1912. Robert is one of several children (about 8 of them) born to James M. Williams and Elizabeth Brown Williams between Lake, possibly San Joaquin and Butte Counties. I understand that Robert is buried in the French Gulch Cemetery. Robert applied for a patent on 160 acres in abt 1911. Can someone look up the cemetery listings or other information on this family? His older brother Charles may also have moved to Shasta or Tehema County after 1903. Thank you

    3. Janie, and ISHI was a YANA, yes? But by 1880/1890 this question of what tribe ANNA FISHER might be from, gets terribly complicated, it seems to me? What with the wars of annihilation that occured, the Indians driven out of many areas and scattered to the four winds; the Indians brought from all over the country by west immagrants, the "absorption" of Indians into white ranks by marriage with identity often concealed on purpose ? Without some sort of data I can see no way it could be assumed she even came from any local tribes? Remember that by 1915 (I think?) Ishi had lived most of his life as the last remaining member of the YANA ? --JD (correct me if I'm wrong?) 1. Re: [CASHASTA] HENSEL BORN IN 1932
    2. Linda Matthews
    3. Janie & all Whoops...I must have been sleepy when I posted my HENSEL query last night. I made a couple goofs...got the facts on two HENSEL brothers confused. Goof 1: The HENSEL I referred to as maybe matching Janie's Birth list was actually ROBERT Lyman HENSEL, not John Lyman Hensel. The dates and general location are right for the Robert L. HENSEL to be a parent of a child born in 1932. Robert was born January 29, 1900 and died August 1966. Goof 2: Robert Lyman HENSEL actually last resided in Solano County, CA according to the Social Security Index but I believe he could have been in Shasta County at one time. Robert Lyman's brother John Daniel Hensel died in 1979 and was the one listed with his last residence being listed as Redding, Shasta Co., CA. Janie mentioned she had a H. Hensel on one of her cemetery lists. I can't make a match of first initial and location with any of the known California HENSEL's in my database. I don't know if and what the names were of any spouses for the above brothers so that could be one theory...or could be an unrelated HENSEL family. Thanks Janie for responding so quickly...sorry about the confusion. ----- Original Message ----- From: <corajanee@shasta.com> To: Linda Matthews <the_guard@email.msn.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 04, 2000 8:48 AM Subject: Re: [CASHASTA] HENSEL BORN IN 1932 > Well, sorry not your John. > 5-32 Hensel, Dolores Darlene Jan-24-1932 Robert L. & Blanche M.(Mowery) > > But with all I have so far transcribed that is the only Hensel listing. > > I did find in the Anderson cemetery listing > > H. Only thing is says for sure is if your Ancestor was here in 1885. If there is no occupation it is because none was listed. it will be in 3 parts Janie http://www.freeyellow.com/members6/famos/cemetery.html LASSEN CO. SUSANVILLE A - D The county seat of Lassen county, is situated about one hundred and fifty miles northeast from Sacramento, and ninety- five miles northwest from Reno, Nevada. The location itself is a peculiarly attractive one, lying as it does just at the base of the Sierra Nevadas, where the mountains give way abruptly to a comparatively level plateau and an unobstructed view over thirty miles is obtained, including almost the entire expanse of the Susan River Valley. The river itself rises in the mountains west of the town, flows past on the south side, thence in a southeasterly direction to its mouth, some twenty-five miles distant where it empties into Honey Lake. For about half of this distance (that part adjacent to Susanville) the land is thickly settled; small farms, well built and attractive residences, and large and commodious barns and outbuildings being the rule. The remaining portion of the valley will, with irrigation, unquestionably develop as well. The United States Land Office, located at this place, shows a record of 1694 cash, 1279 final homestead and 73 final desert entries, and there still remains within the limits of this district much valuable timber lands open to claimants, as well as so rated desert land which only needs irrigation to bring it up to a standard in fertility which will compare favorably with any land of the State. Susanville has one newspaper, The Lassen Advocate, weekly, which is the official county paper. It is ably conducted by Messrs, McKinsey & Hayden, proprietors. The school facilities of the town are fully up to the times; the Methodists and Congregationalists have fine and commodious church buildings, and the organizations are well sustained. Its hotel accommodations are amply provided for in two hotels, the Johnston House, a well conducted establishment, kept by Messrs, Dowling & Myers, being worthy of special mention, and among its business interests may be specially noted the Lassen Mills, with a capacity of forty-five barrels of flour per day, which is kept constantly running. Outside communications are had by daily stage line to Reno, twenty miles of this route on the end next to Reno being by rail. Two other lines are run during seven months of the year, one to a connection with the California and Northern Railroad to Oroville, and the other to Chico, connecting at that point with rail to all parts of the State. It has a money order post office, and Wells, Fargo & Co's Express. 1. [CASHASTA] HENSEL BORN IN 1932
    2. Linda Matthews
    3. Thanks to Janie's efforts in transcribing vital statistics and other information, I have another clue in my quest for finding descendants of Levi HENSEL, a very interesting Civil War veteran / blacksmith / newspaperman from the 1800's in Kansas and Colorado. I have determined that his great grandson John Lyman HENSEL was listed with Redding, Shasta County, CA as his last residence on the social security index. I am guessing that the John L Hensel listed on the Shasta County birth list with a child born January 24, 1932 is that same John Lyman. Was this child male or female? Could he/she be still living in Shasta County? I would appreciate any information that could lead me to this HENSEL descendant or any other HENSEL descendants of this branch. I am researching all branches of the Hensel's. My quest for information on the Levi Hensel branch was launched through a Civil War era letter given to me that was written to Levi's niece. I'm hoping that this great grandchild born in Shasta County in 1932 or any other descendants may be able to fill me in on further details of their ancestors through Levi or even through a couple generations. I have a lot of HENSEL information to share. Thanks for any help that you may be able to provide. Thanks again Janie for all the time and effort you have put in.
