Hi Corajanee, I want to thank you for perservering and putting all the information that you have about Shasta County and especially Burney on this website. Although I know very little about Shasta County, (I relocated here in the late 70's,) I joined this list in case I could help anyone out there with a Shasta County question because I have gleaned so much off of the other Rootsweb lists that I belong to. I live about 55 miles from Redding, the county seat, and it is a long windy road but surprisingly I make this drive at least twice a month. I would like to point out to everyone that you are posting a list that is accurate as of a certain date. Could you post what that date is, because I have lost many a dear friend in the last 10 years that I don't see on your list and I don't want anyone to miss a name that is indeed here but buried in the last decade or so and maybe not included in your list. Today in History: from the Redding Record Searchlight January 1901 1st preparations were nearly complete for the installations of an electrical power plant in the Shingletown area. The earliest delivery of machinery was in June, and by that time everything was sure to be ready for the transmission of power. 2nd a rumor was circulating among the "pugilistically inclined" that the approaching boxing match between Sylvester Day and Joe Reay was likely to be conducted in Red Bluff rather than Redding. It was said Day had been dissatisfied with the terms offered by the Redding athletic club. 3rd the retired Rev. Bishop Moreland of the Episcopal Church of California was set to visit the local Episcopal church for several days. 4th a glass of beer at Grilitner Saloon across from the Temple Hotel in Redding cost 5 cents. An advertisement in Redding's Morning Searchlight claimed the beer at the saloon was "the coolest and sharpest in town." 5th Mrs. W.J. Gillespie of Redding was announced as the winner of a drawing by Golden Eagle Jewelry store conducted at the Fireman's Ball on New Year's Eve in Redding. 6th a petition was being circulated for presentation to the Shasta County Board of Supervisors asking for the construction of a bridge across Calaboose Creek at the junction of West and Shasta streets in Redding. 7th a dispatch from Yreka said 6 feet of snow had accumulated in the city and snow was still falling. Shoveler's were being paid $2 per hour to "keep the town from falling in." 8th Postmaster Reynolds announced that Redding residents would soon enjoy a free mail delivery system. 9th John William Hathaway, a farmer in the Oak Run area, was accidently shot and killed near his home when his gun fell and discharged. 10th Harrison Gulch mining camp, near Ono, was covered in 7 feet of snow. Hikers returned to report more than 250 men had stopped working and that camps were experiencing a wood, water, and whiskey famine. Cottonwood is on the Shasta/Tehama co line. a very well kept cemetery This cemetery was just finished walked in March. My daughter walked it for me. I was also given interment records from 1975 - 2000 so it is as current as possible. quite a few very small markers have been covered by dirt and have been overgrown so not visable. the info is taken from old lists, actral viewing and interment records. it is amazing how many died out of the area. Cottonwood is on the Shasta/Tehama co line. a very well kept cemetery This cemetery was just finished walked in March. My daughter walked it for me. I was also given interment records from 1975 - 2000 so it is as current as possible. quite a few very small markers have been covered by dirt and have been overgrown so not visable. the info is taken from old lists, actral viewing and interment records. it is amazing how many died out of the area. CAto Joseph and Louisa Pangburn. She was the wife of Arthur Perkiss residing in Buckeye District, Shasta Co, CA. Emma died December 1901 in Anderson and is buried in Gridley, Calif. Arthur died 1905 and is also buried in Gridley. They had a daughter Aura Lee Perkiss who married William Montgomery Shearin abt 1899. Had daughters Hazel and Azeil. In 1900 census Arthur and Emma had S Jordan Spencer age 44 residing with them. Emma's mother was Louisa Spenser Pangburn. Any info on either of my gggrandparents would be appreciated.
